Ohno’s recent photo brings up the tattoo situation of the Japanese talents.

Will the five ever reunite and resume activities?

The October 31 issue of “Josei Seven” (Shogakukan) captured a recent photo of Arashi’s Satoshi Ohno. In early October, Ohno was reportedly staying in Miyakojima Island, Okinawa, where a glimpse of a tattoo on his arm was spotted, leaving many fans shocked.

While idols and tattoos may seem like an odd combination, it’s not uncommon for talents who were part of the former Johnny’s Entertainment (now “SMILE-UP.”) to have quietly gotten tattoos.

Arashi went on hiatus at the end of 2020, triggered by Ohno’s wish to experience a free lifestyle. Since then, multiple weekly magazines have reported on Ohno spending time on Miyako Island to prepare for the opening of a resort facility, among other things.

Enjoying what appears to be a free lifestyle, Ohno was recently photographed by “Josei Seven” sporting a beard and revealing a tattoo peeking out from the sleeve of his T-shirt.

“Arashi marked the 25th anniversary of their CD debut on November 3. Leading up to the anniversary, fans were likely on edge, wondering if there would be an announcement about the group’s revival. Just then, at the end of October, ‘Josei Seven’ published photos of Ohno’s ‘tattoo,’ causing an uproar on social media.

Fans lamented, saying, ‘Considering the nature of an idol’s job, tattoos might not be very appropriate. Does this mean he has no intention of returning to the stage?’ and ‘Thinking that getting a tattoo signifies he’s not coming back as an idol is heartbreaking,'” a showbiz writer commented.

That said, there were other talents from the former Johnny’s who had photos of their tattoos leaked or were rumored to have tattoos, sparking discussions. For example, Tomoya Nagase (former TOKIO) was photographed with a matching shoulder tattoo when he was dating singer Ayumi Hamasaki.

“Shibuya Subaru (former Kanjani Eight, now SUPER EIGHT) had tattoos on the back of his hand, and Go Morita (former V6) was seen with tattoos on his fingers on TV. In Morita’s case, it seems he also had tattoos on his arms, so depending on the program’s policies, there was attention paid to his costumes.

When V6 and Hey! Say! JUMP served as main personalities for the 2015 charity special ’24-Hour TV: Love Saves the Earth 38′ (Nippon TV), Morita wore a three-quarter sleeve inner layer under the charity T-shirt to conceal his arm tattoos. Additionally, Sei Tanaka (former KAT-TUN) was also suspected of having tattoos during his time at the agency,” the same writer noted.

Takuya Kimura Has a Tattoo in the Same Place as His Wife Shizuka Kudo

Yuya Tegoshi was also rumored among fans to have a tattoo on his ankle during his time as a member of NEWS.

In 2019, when our magazine published private photos of Tegoshi partying in Akasaka, Tokyo, a shot clearly showing his tattoo was included. Fans were shocked, saying, “Wasn’t Tegoshi’s tattoo just a sticker?”

“Takuya Kimura (former SMAP) also drew attention several times for rumors of an ankle tattoo while he was in the group. In the 2009 broadcast of ‘Sanma & SMAP! Christmas Special of Beauty and the Beast’ (NTV), Kimura participated in a hot water bath challenge and had tape wrapped around one of his ankles.

The truth came to light in January 2017, the year after SMAP disbanded, during a variety show appearance. While trying yoga on location for ‘Pittanko Kan Kan’ (TBS), Kimura’s ankle tattoo was visible, surprising viewers who remarked, ‘He doesn’t hide his tattoo now that the group has disbanded.’ Incidentally, Kimura’s wife, singer Shizuka Kudo, has also publicly revealed her ankle tattoo,” the same writer explained.

Although Kimura is still affiliated with STARTO ENTERTAINMENT (formerly Johnny’s), most talents who had tattoos have already left the agency.

Late last month, fake news about Ohno being arrested for violating cannabis laws spread, causing a stir. Will the day ever come when he returns to the stage as a member of Arashi?
