Education Minister Masahito Moriyama, 70, is under fire from opposition parties for having concluded a de facto policy pact with the former Unification Church to support his election.

The person who resents such a minister is Michiko Moriyama’s wife. She is the eldest daughter of the late Hajime Tamura, who served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and grew up closely following her father’s political activities. She is known as the wife of a strongman in the Moriyama office.

–Did you have any contact with the church?

No, I had no contact with them at all. The Church says they helped with the campaign calls, but I was in the (local) office every day during the ’21 election, so if I didn’t know someone, I would recognize them right away.
