Yosaki Suspect Stabs Mother-in-law in Meth Attack

Ho, stabbed with a kitchen knife: ……

At 1:30 p.m. on May 17, a woman called 119 and said she was out of breath. She was immediately transported to the hospital by ambulance, but was confirmed dead about two hours later after being stabbed in multiple places, including the stomach and back.

The scene was a detached house about a 10-minute walk from JR Oimachi Station in Tokyo. The victim was Mieko Kato, 75, who lived in the house. A kitchen knife with a blade of about 15 cm in length, stained bright red with blood, was found on the floor right next to the house.

The suspect, Toshio Yosaki, 46, a company employee, was caught red-handed on suspicion of assault. At the time of the incident, the suspect was standing with a pale face near where Mr. Kato had fallen. He said to the police officers who rushed to the scene, “I stabbed a woman. He was arrested on the spot.

When questioned by the police, Yosaki stated, “I got frustrated and stabbed her. After a heated argument with Ms. Kato, the suspect got angry and stabbed her with a kitchen knife. The police have changed the charge to murder and are now investigating.

Work at Corona plummeted.

The house in Oi, Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, where the incident took place.

The suspect, Yosaki, is Mr. Kato’s son-in-law. He usually lives with his wife, two children, and mother-in-law. At the time of the incident, he was alone with Ms. Kato at home.

He had been arguing with Mr. Kato frequently in the past.

The home is a rented house, and the family moved in about three years ago. The suspect works at an ironworks, but due to the spread of the new coronavirus, his work has drastically decreased. He relies solely on his wife for income, and we are told that he often stayed home during the day. On the other hand, on his days off, he went fishing and other hobbies, and was unable to find a new job. Mr. Kato, who was dissatisfied with his work, must have warned him.

Former Kanagawa Prefectural Police detective and crime journalist Taihei Ogawa explains that the circumstances at the scene “give off a strong sense of murderous intent.

He was probably scolded repeatedly and severely by his mother-in-law. I think he had built up a lot of anger toward his mother-in-law. I don’t feel that he planned to kill her, but he must have had a strong desire to kill her, because he stabbed her to death. One of the major causes of problems between relatives is financial troubles. My mother-in-law was paying rent on her house out of her pension, and she may have become increasingly frustrated with her son-in-law, who refused to work.
