The drama “DCU” (TBS) will start in January 2010. The story is set in the DCU, a fictional organization newly established by the Japan Coast Guard, where the captain, played by Hiroshi Abe (57), and his team investigate a difficult underwater incident.
It has been attracting attention even before it started airing because TBS is co-producing it with a major Hollywood production company. The filming was done with the full cooperation of the Japan Coast Guard, and the actors, including Abe who plays the captain, received instruction from divers from the Coast Guard.
I witnessed the filming at the Japan Coast Guard’s Yokohama Maritime Disaster Prevention Base in late November. I witnessed the filming at the Yokohama Coast Guard Base in late November. Also present were Ryusei Yokohama (25) and Anne Nakamura (34), who play DCU members.
Abe sat on a chair wearing a bench coat. There were times when he yawned, as if he was tired, but he practiced his lines in a secluded place and worked hard to get ready for the performance. With his passionate performance, we are sure to see a hot human drama in the cold winter.
