Suspect Takahashi, who hid the truth that he was married and was dating a single mother.

I’m going to marry him soon. My daughter needs a father.

The single mother told her friends with a happy look on her face. However, the man she was dating was hiding a serious truth from her. The man was married.

On July 7, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s Investigation Division arrested Ken Takahashi, 43, of Soka City, Saitama Prefecture, who works for a group company of a major electronics manufacturer, on suspicion of murder. He strangled Nozomi Narita to death, a 37 years old single mother living in Nerima Ward, Tokyo, whom he was dating. Takahashi admitted to the crime, saying, “I killed her with a rope I had prepared.

The body was first found by Narita’s eldest daughter, who was eight years old. When she woke up at around 7:30 in the morning on March 12 this year, she found Ms. Narita lying in the bathroom of her apartment. The eldest daughter immediately informed Mr. Takahashi of the shocking situation. Her mother had told her to ‘call Mr. Takahashi if anything happened.’

Upon receiving the call, Takahashi visited the room and called 119. Ms. Narita was pronounced dead on the spot. The suspect said to the investigators who arrived at the scene I didn’t see her that day,” and “I think she committed suicide.”

Mr. Narita was lying on his back with a string wrapped several times around her neck and part of it hanging on a nearby doorknob. The police began investigating both the incident and the suicide.

However, as the investigation progressed, facts that differed from the testimony of the suspect Takahashi came to light one after another. The woman had no reason to commit suicide. The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was asphyxiation due to pressure on the neck, which was unnatural for a suicide. The security camera caught the suspect visiting Narita’s room late at night on the day of the incident, although he said he had not met her. It is believed that Takahashi faked Ms. Narita’s suicide in order to conceal his own crime.

After Mr. Takahashi strangled Ms. Narita, it is known that he stayed at an Internet cafe about 2 km away. After receiving a call from his eldest daughter, he returned to the scene of the crime.

Why did Takahashi murder his girlfriend Narita? Looking back at his words and actions, the background of the case comes into view.

The suspect got married in 2014. However, he had been attending blind dates for marriage-partner more than a dozen times, concealing the fact that he was married. He met Ms. Narita at a party in September 2017. They began dating the following year.

At the time of the incident, Ms. Narita was pregnant. It was probably Takahashi’s child. Ms. Narita lives with her eldest daughter. The suspect sweet-talked her, saying, “Let’s get married,” and she was so pleased that she reported it to her parents and was making preparations. However, when the fact that she was pregnant was discovered, it is believed that there was some kind of trouble between the two.

Ms. Narita served as an officer of the PTA at her eldest daughter’s elementary school, and she was a cheerful person who was well-liked by those around her. The suspect, Takahashi, concealed the fact that he was married, deceived Ms. Narita for his own greed, and took her precious life. The crime of depriving a mother and her child of happiness is a heinous crime.
