Korean Male Announcer Accused of Assaulting Actress Ex-Wife’s Sister: Shock Details
Accused of sexually assaulting the real sister of his ex-wife.
A shocking allegation has emerged in South Korea, causing a stir in society. On October 18, freelance announcer Yoo Yong-jae (60) was indicted for sexual violence while staying at home. Yoo is accused of forcibly committing sexual assault against the sister of his ex-wife, actress Sonu Eun-sook (64), whom he divorced in April of this year.
“Mr. Yoo is a famous announcer who hosted CBS’s ‘Into the Songs’ and SBS’s ‘Yoo Yong-jae’s Song Show.’ On the other hand, Sonu is a veteran actress who graduated from Seoul Arts University and debuted in 1978. She has appeared in numerous works, including the dramas ‘The Golden Empire’ and ‘Full House.’
The two, both having previous divorces, got married in October 2022. Mr. Yoo fell in love with Sonu at first sight and proposed just eight days after meeting her, which became a topic of discussion. However, their happy time did not last long. They announced their divorce in April this year, just a year and a half after their marriage, citing personality differences as the reason” (Korean newspaper reporter).
The main reason for their divorce.
However, it later emerged that the reason for the divorce was not just personality differences. The shocking allegations introduced at the beginning of the story came to light.
“Sonu’s real older sister, A, filed a police report accusing Mr. Yoo of sexual assault. According to A’s lawyer, she was forcibly touched at least five times since 2023. Korean media outlet ‘Maeil Economic Start Today’ reported that there is recorded data of conversations between Mr. Yoo and A. In the recording, Mr. Yoo admits to the sexual assault, apologizing and stating that the reason for his actions was because ‘she seemed lonely.’
A confessed to her sister Sonu about what Mr. Yoo had done to her. Sonu was so shocked that she was unable to recover and was even hospitalized due to the distress. The assault on her sister A is said to have been the main reason Sonu decided to divorce. A is reportedly still struggling with emotional trauma and continues to receive treatment and take medication” (same source).
As the scandal grew, Mr. Yoo initially denied the allegations in a video, saying, “If this continues, the accusations of sexual harassment will become fact, so I will contest it in court.” However.
“The police conducted a thorough investigation and forwarded the case. The prosecution decided to proceed with the indictment. Sonu and her sister A seem confident they can prove the charges in court” (another Korean news reporter).
What started as a harmonious marriage between a famous announcer and a veteran actress has now been irreparably damaged by accusations of sexual harassment involving a family member.
