Mayo Kawasaki Finally Declares Complete Victory over Kaya after 8 Years! “I Will Make a Fresh Start on My 60th Birthday with a Clean Slate!”-Mayo
The six-year-long divorce case has been settled. "From now on, we will both do our best for our future lives.
On September 20, Mayo Kawasaki (60) and Kaya (61) reached a major milestone in their six-year divorce trial. The Tokyo High Court dismissed Kaya’s claim for alimony on the grounds of domestic violence and adultery by Mayo.
Kaya was ordered to pay approximately 66 million yen to Mayo as a division of property, and Kaya was also ordered to bear the legal costs.
Kaya and Mayo have been at odds with each other for many years, but with the high court’s ruling, the outcome of the case has been decided. Ms. Kaya still has the option of appealing the case to the Supreme Court, but it is unlikely that her appeal will be accepted, according to an acquaintance of the Kawasakis.
The issues at the trial in the high court were their heterosexual relationship, the alleged assault, and the division of property. Both Kaya and Mayo were reportedly involved in relationships during their marriage, Kaya with a Guinean man and Mayo with a former idol. The arguments about the alleged assaults were heated, with both claiming that they had been subjected to domestic violence by each other. However, Kaya’s statement was dismissed as lacking objective credibility, taking into account her comprehension of Japanese.
Notably, the High Court disputed the division of property owned by Mayo as well as that shared by the couple.
Kaya said, “Simply put, Kaya wanted to get money from Mayo, citing various reasons. However, the court rejected all of her claims and demanded payment of the money.
Less than 20 years have passed since their separation in 2004. What does Mayo think now that the eight-year struggle, including the period of divorce mediation, has come to an end? We interviewed him directly after he came out of a restaurant in Tokyo.
–The trial with Mr. Kaya was a complete victory in the High Court.
The trial with Mr. Kaya was completely won by the high court. But 6 years was too long, and I lost a lot of things during that time, and it had a great impact on my work.
–What was the impact on his work?
“The stress caused me to develop a functional dysphonia, which limited my work considerably. In addition, I was under suspicion of domestic violence and adultery, and there were many jobs that I could not accept due to compliance issues.
–What kind of life do you want to lead in the future?
This year I turned 60, and recently I have been into anti-aging (laughs). I would like to continue to work in the entertainment industry as an active member for the rest of my life. I hope I can use my divorce as a break and make a fresh start in my life. I would like to tell Kaya that from now on we will both do our best in our future lives.
Mayo’s expression was so youthful and clear that it was hard to believe that he is 60 years old.
