Yoo Hyun-ju competed in a top-tier tour event for the first time in a while. She captivated the audience not only with her play but also with her fan interactions.

Her third appearance on the regular tour this season

Yoo Hyun-joo (32), a South Korean professional golfer nicknamed the “Next-Generation Sexy Queen,” competed in the “BC Card-Hankyung 48th KLPGA Championship,” held over four days starting August 20.

As the 20th event of this season’s KLPGA Tour and the second major tournament of the season, the total prize pool was 1.5 billion won (approximately 170 million yen), with the winner’s prize set at 270 million won (approximately 30 million yen). The course was extended by more than 200 yards compared to last year, and the fairways were significantly narrowed from the previous 25–27 meters to 12–16 meters. With rough up to 150 mm deep, the course setup demanded extreme precision in every shot.

Yoo Hyun-ju, who entered the tournament as a wild card, got off to a slow start with a “79” on the first day. On the second day, as she sought to bounce back, she carded a “76” with one birdie, three bogeys, and one double bogey. Although she fought hard until the very end, she missed the cut, finishing tied for 111th at 11 over par.

In an exclusive interview with *FRIDAY* conducted at the end of January this year,

“Setting specific goals doesn’t work out for me, so right now I just want to enjoy playing golf,”

she explained her current mindset. Although she continues to compete without being overly fixated on results, the advancement to the final rounds that many fans have been eagerly awaiting will have to wait until her next tournament.

Even so, Yoo Hyun-ju displayed flashes of brilliance throughout the tournament. She’s also making headlines outside the golf course. On August 20—the same day this tournament began—her team, the “Doosan Construction We’ve Golf Team,” released their official team song, “We’ve Got Everything.”

Eight team members, including Yoo Hyun-ju and Park Gyeol (30), known as the “Barbie Doll of the Golf World,” participated in the recording. This marks the first time a South Korean professional golf team has produced an official team song featuring the players’ own vocals. The song features a bright, hopeful rock style. The players gathered in the studio during the tour’s hiatus, practiced their respective parts, and proceeded with the recording while listening to each other’s vocals.

Big Offers in ’17

Unaccustomed to recording, some players reportedly remarked, “Singing is harder than golf.” The song is now available on Apple Music and other streaming services.

Although Yoo Hyun-joo has traded her golf club for a microphone this time, she hasn’t accepted every offer she’s received, including those related to entertainment work.Recently, a past anecdote about Yoo Hyun-joo was shared on the Korean social media platform “Threads.” According to the post, although it has not been made public, Yoo Hyun-joo once received a modeling offer from the Korean men’s magazine *MAXIM KOREA* but turned it down.

*MAXIM KOREA* is the Korean edition of an international monthly men’s magazine originally launched in the UK. While known for its revealing photo spreads featuring actors, singers, models, and influencers, it also publishes articles on entertainment, fashion, and lifestyle. It is one of the most well-known men’s magazines in South Korea.

Yu Hyun-ju herself, who happened to come across this post, appeared in the comments section.

“Hello, this is Yoo Hyun-joo! I happened to open Threads and saw this post. I received an offer from MAXIM back in 2017. It was quite a while ago, and I wasn’t very famous yet (laughs). I remember turning down the shoot without much hesitation.”

She added, “I think it was an episode that drew some attention. Aside from that, I’m truly grateful to everyone who always supports me.”

While she declined the modeling shoot, she currently values her interactions with fans through activities such as recording team songs, appearing on TV shows, and engaging on social media. Rather than shunning the spotlight, she has chosen how to present herself in each situation.

Although she has been facing a string of tough results on the regular tour, Yoo Hyun-joo’s title remains “professional golfer.” As she continues to make her presence felt through various activities, it remains to be seen what kind of results she’ll achieve as a competitor. All eyes are sure to be on her the next time she steps onto the fairway.

Although she failed to make the cut, there were moments when her skillful play drew cheers from fans
Her smile in response to the cheers left a lasting impression
This summer, she released a song with her team, showing a different side of herself than what is seen on the course.
Although she receives a constant stream of offers outside of golf, she remains committed to delivering results on the course above all else. We look forward to the day we see that smile on the podium.
