The victims, ranging in age from their 20s to their 50s, were walking along the street when they were assaulted by a group of roughly 10 armed men. One victim suffered serious injuries after being struck in the head with a club-like object, though his injuries were not life-threatening. The <span class="hover:entity-accent entity-underline inline cursor-pointer align-baseline"><span class="whitespace-normal">Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department</span></span>&#8216;s Shinjuku Police Station is investigating the case as attempted murder and searching for the suspects, who fled the scene.</p>
<p data-start="580" data-end="1013"><strong>“The attack took place near the intersection of Kuyakusho-dori and Hanamichi-dori,” said a reporter covering social affairs nationwide. “According to police, the attackers suddenly appeared in several vehicles before launching the assault. They punched and kicked the victims, and some reportedly used club-like weapons. The entire incident lasted only a few minutes, and the attackers quickly got back into their vehicles and fled.”</strong></p>

Then the fighting suddenly started. The victims seemed completely caught off guard and were barely able to defend themselves. They were just being beaten, and some were bleeding from the head. It all happened so fast that at first I couldn&#8217;t even understand what was going on.”</strong></p>
<p data-start="1775" data-end="1828">Another male witness described the frightening scene:</p>

A man suddenly appeared carrying what looked like a metal bat or some kind of club and started swinging it toward people&#8217;s heads while shouting aggressively. The victims were shouting things like, ‘What are you doing?!’ but they were getting completely beaten up. Even after they fell to the ground, several attackers continued kicking them without mercy.”</strong></p>

Members of Gang C, who had become involved in an effort to mediate between A and B, were also caught up in the violence,”</strong> the source said.</p>
<p data-start="575" data-end="648">Why did a simple debt dispute escalate into such a violent confrontation?</p>
<p data-start="650" data-end="1123"><strong>“The answer is straightforward: the borrower kept failing to repay the money. Gang A and Gang B belong to different affiliated organizations, so if one side drags its feet on repayment, conflict is almost inevitable. If they belonged to the same parent organization, it probably wouldn&#8217;t have escalated this far. Gang B didn&#8217;t want to be seen as a group that lends money and can&#8217;t collect it, so the attack became a way of demonstrating its strength,”</strong> the source explained.</p>
<p data-start="1125" data-end="1319">According to the source, three members of Gang C and one member of Gang A were attacked. One of the Gang C members suffered injuries severe enough to require treatment in an intensive care unit.</p>
