 On May 7, the LDP&#8217;s &#8220;National Power Study Group&#8221; was revealed, and its first meeting is scheduled to be held on May 21.
 What has been attracting attention in Nagata-cho is the impressive lineup of founders.

 The first person to join the group is Taro Aso, 85, vice president of the LDP. In other words, there is no candidate for prime minister within the Aso Faction. Taro Kono, 63, who has run for president in the past, is very ambitious, but he is not well remembered by Mr. Aso, and more importantly, he is not popular within the faction. Koga retired from politics in 2012, but he still retains his hidden power as the elder of the Koikekai,&#8217; said the same LDP official.
 Aso, a hawk, and Koga, a dove. Behind the scenes, it is said that they have a &#8220;grudge&#8221; in their hometown that cannot be fully explained by their political beliefs alone.

 Mr. Aso and Ms. Koga are members of the same Liberal Democratic Party, but they have faced off many times, including in the prefectural gubernatorial election and the supplementary election for Fukuoka&#8217;s 6th ward. Moreover, Mr. Aso has clashed not only with Mr. Koga but also with Ryota Takeda, former Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications for Fukuoka&#8217;s 11th ward. In the next general election, Mr. Aso probably intends to hand over the ground to one of his children, but the local Fukuoka prefectural federation is not monolithic.  The public is very critical of &#8220;heredity,&#8221; and in the February general election, Ken Yamamoto, the son-in-law of Prime Minister Takaichi, once announced his intention to run, but decided not to run for the Fukui 2nd Constituency.

For Mr. Kobayashi, in particular, the position of party policy chief is a perfect position for him to sell himself.

 For Mr. Mogi, the next presidential election will be his last chance.
