Serina. Born May 19, from Hokkaido

I want to remain the same Serina

A former member of SDN48, she went on to dominate variety shows after graduating. We spoke with Serina, who is currently creating a buzz with her long-awaited gravure appearance in the FRIDAY January 2・9・16, 2026 combined issue, now on sale.

— How was the gravure shoot for FRIDAY?

“Once again, I thought, ‘After all, I really do like this kind of work.’ There are so many people in the gravure world who make the shoot enjoyable, and it feels like a place that freely and openly accepts my self-expression—a place where I can express myself most easily. I feel very happy about that.”

— Is there anything you keep in mind on a daily basis?

“From the perspective of people who have supported me for a long time, I wonder if, as five or ten years pass and my overall vibe changes, it might feel just a little lonely.”

That’s why I have the feeling that I want to remain the same Serina. But as you live your life, even from yesterday to today, the things you like can change, and your environment can change too, right? I think those day-to-day transitions are fine as long as only I notice them.

When I look at the photos that were taken, I can think, ‘Back then, I liked things like this,’ or ‘This is how I was spending my time.’ Even if there are changes that only I know about, I’d be happy if everyone feels something like, ‘She’s become even more beautiful than before,’ ‘She’s really working hard on her body,’ or ‘She’s still the same Serina I’ve always liked.’”

I want to be with people I feel are important

— What do you think is your own charm point?

“I realized this recently, but I think my brain is my charm point (laughs). In order to live as myself in a way no one else can, this brain is absolutely necessary, and it’s something that gives me confidence.

There are lots of other things I like about myself too. I like the shape of my ears, the color of my eyes, and my teeth alignment. But above all, it’s my way of thinking.

It’s an important weapon that allows me to live as myself.”

— How do you feel having experienced both being in the spotlight and working behind the scenes, such as idol producing?

“One of the things I need to convey to the idols is how to approach work, and to pass on the things I feel were good to have done up to now. If that leads them in a positive direction for their future, it also gives me confidence again and makes me want to work harder in front of the public. Being able to do both has created a good cycle.”

— Have you received any love from people around you recently?

“I feel like I’m surrounded by love every day. Last year, I left my agency and became independent, and since then my feelings have grown stronger about wanting to do the work I truly want to do, and to be with people I feel are important.

Not just work, but the friends I go out to eat with, the everyday environment I casually spend time in—I don’t think I can move forward unless there’s love somewhere.

Once I started consciously choosing places where there is love, those kinds of things naturally began to gather around me. When I tell someone that I like them or that they’re important, they give that back to me, and the relationship expands even further. That’s what my days are like.

I’ve reached the point where I don’t even want to go to places without love anymore. Every day is filled with love.”

— What are you most looking forward to right now?

“The future of the idol group I’m producing, ‘Odore! Kamikaze.’

Before I met them, I myself had almost lost sight of my dreams. Because I knew what it was like to spend time living with dreams, I felt something was missing. I think there are different lives—one where you can’t dream, one where you give up on your dreams, and one where you make your dreams come true—but I want everyone to live a life where they achieve their dreams. I want them to keep achieving them.

Spending my days with the members while holding those feelings has become a truly enjoyable time.”

— Lastly, please give a message to FRIDAY readers.

“Since the last time I appeared, the readership may have changed, and some people may be remembering me after a long time, while others are seeing me for the first time.

No matter what brought you to see me this time, I would be happy if it led to wonderful new encounters, reunions, or discoveries of new charms. Please share your impressions with me. Let’s meet again!”
