A Hint of Change? Princess Kako Stuns in a White Dress with a Soft Silhouette
〈An elegant atmosphere〉
“I would like to offer a big round of applause for those who have seriously thought about the various challenges in society and acted on them as issues they themselves should tackle.”
Her Imperial Highness Princess Kako (30) delivered these remarks on October 19, when she attended “Girls’ Messe 2025,” an event hosted by the Girl Scouts of Japan in Shibuya, Tokyo. Girls’ Messe is a ceremony recognizing outstanding Girl Scout activities. Princess Kako expressed profound respect for members who support disaster victims and people facing financial hardship.
What especially drew attention that day was her refined and elegant outfit. She wore a white dress with black polka dots, complemented by a red handbag and pumps.
A reporter from a national newspaper covering the Imperial Household explained:
“Princess Kako often wears polka-dot dresses. The one she wore this time appears to be from the brand PINKY & DIANNE, which retails for about 49,500 yen. She seemed to wear the same dress during her visit to Brazil in June. The silhouette is soft and graceful overall.
Her outfits frequently draw attention, and items she wears often sell out. After each public engagement, social media fills with comments like elegant atmosphere or it suits her beautifully. But sometimes her choices spark debate — for instance, the blue long dress she wore in October at the 79th National Sports Festival in Hikone drew comments that it accentuated her body line.”
Imperial Household commentator Shinji Yamashita provided further context:
“For certain court rituals or ceremonies, there are strict dress codes. At events like the New Year’s Celebration or formal state banquets, decorations must be worn, men dress in tailcoats, and women wear robe décolleté. At other times, men may wear tuxedos and women long dresses.
For regular public duties, however, there are no fixed rules — Her Highness chooses her attire herself.
Of course, she is mindful of TPO. For example, she would never visit a disaster-stricken area in a skirt. Given her high visibility, she is surely aware of public and media commentary. It’s possible she considers such opinions when selecting her clothes and accessories.”
The soft, modest silhouette of her dress at Girls’ Messe may have been a subtle course correction after debate surrounding her previous blue gown. Even in her clothing choices, one can sense Princess Kako’s thoughtful consideration.
