Bill Murray Arrives in Japan for MLB Quickly Returns After Cubs’ Losing Streak
Wearing a Chicago Cubs cap and walking behind an airport staff member with a neutral expression, Hollywood star Bill Murray (74) was spotted at the airport.
The two opening games of the “MLB Tokyo Series by Guggenheim” held on March 18 and 19 between the Dodgers and Cubs ended with the Dodgers winning both games. The Tokyo Dome in Bunkyo Ward, the venue for the games, attracted not only domestic fans but also many international celebrities. Among them, Bill Murray stood out the most.
“Bill became a global star playing Dr. Peter Venkman in the 1984 hit movie ‘Ghostbusters.’ The film was turned into a series, and the fourth installment, ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife,’ released in 2021, also became a global hit. In 2003, he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in ‘Lost in Translation,’ set in Tokyo, and received many awards, including the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy.
Hailing from Chicago, he is known to be an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs. After the Cubs won the World Series for the first time in 108 years in 2016, he was seen tearing up on the field, which became a widely discussed moment” (film magazine reporter).
At the Tokyo Dome before the first game, he was spotted chatting with Cubs staff and Ken Griffey Jr. (55) while wearing a Cubs-branded cap and sweater, a moment that was shared on Instagram by Cubs reporter Taylor McGregor.
However, the Cubs lost both games to the Dodgers. Bill was spotted at Haneda Airport the following day, leaving Japan without sightseeing, likely returning home quickly. He appeared somewhat down, which might have been due to the Cubs’ loss.
For the Cubs to become champions for the first time in nine years, the contributions of Shohei Imanaga (31) and Seiya Suzuki (30) will be essential. Will we be able to see Bill’s emotional expression again this fall?
