“The suspect gave the girls money as pocket money for the first time, and then engaged in sexual intercourse with them without money. He played the role of a kind older brother and talked with them to get them to open up to him.

Although he has the appearance of an ordinary businessman, he is also suspected of violating the Osaka Prefectural Ordinance on the Healthy Development of Youth by engaging in sexual intercourse with a girl at a hotel in Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture, on January 12 of this year. The confiscated smartphone contained his correspondence with several girls.”

Crime journalist Taihei Ogawa points out the risks of SNS use by minors.

“Sending photos of yourself to people you have never met on SNS is dangerous because of the risk of spreading. However, underage girls who have not yet mastered the ability to make good judgments may be tempted to send their pictures to people they have never met, saying things like, ‘Don’t you trust me? and so on, they tend to send them.

Many elementary and junior high school students today have little awareness of risk management, such as not sending photos or meeting one-on-one with people they meet on social networking sites. I believe that more education on risk management in SNS will be needed in the future under the leadership of the Ministry of Education and the national government.”

In response to the police investigation, the suspect stated, “There is no doubt that we had sexual intercourse, but the girl (herself) sent the photos to me. It can only be described as cowardly, malicious, and shameful because a good adult was taking advantage of an underage girl’s loneliness.”
