She has a good-natured personality.

Kurumi Miyajima, a hot new actress who won the judges’ special award in the “Bishojo Zukan AWARD 2023,” took on her first full-fledged solo gravure in the January 10 issue of FRIDAY. We asked her about her impressions of the shoot and her surprising background.

—What did you think of this photogravure?

I was anxious and nervous since this was my first gravure since Miss Maga 2024, and my first solo gravure, but the staff kindly taught me how to do it, and I enjoyed the shoot so much that I thought it was over in a flash. I especially enjoyed shooting in the pool. Although the weather was fine, the water temperature was about 20 degrees Celsius and it was cold, but once I was in the pool, I got used to the temperature and had so much fun that I was still playing after the shooting was over. I think I was able to get a good expression because I was almost just myself during the shooting of that scene.

—What did you do for the shoot?

I tried not to eat too much food in the morning and at night, and if I ate a big lunch, I would only eat fruit at night.

—Is there anything you had to endure?

I love fried food and grilled meat, so I wanted to eat a lot of them, but my constitution tends to show in my body, so I tried not to eat for a few days before the shoot.

—Do you have any memorable costumes for the shoot?

A. “The cream-colored one-piece swimsuit. I was photographed with a cool, determined expression in this outfit, and when I looked at the photos taken of me, I realized that I could also have such a mature expression (laughs). It was like I met a new me, and it was very impressive. I have a pretty good-natured personality and joke around a lot with my friends, so I think people who know me on a day-to-day basis would be quite surprised to see my gravure photos.

—You went to a high school where you could study voice acting, right? What made you decide to go to that high school?

I first became aware of the possibility of becoming a voice actor when I was in junior high school. At the time, I was into sports anime such as “Majors” and “HIQUE! and other sports anime at the time, and that’s how I learned about voice acting. I thought it was wonderful and cool that they were able to bring laughter and excitement to the viewers with just their voices, and I thought that I would like to work in the future using my voice, too.

We had singing and dancing lessons.”

—What did you study at school?

In addition to vocal exercises, tongue twisters, and postrecording, we also had to memorize long lines and do a seven-minute storytelling by ourselves, perform on stage, and take singing and dance classes. Many of today’s voice actors are active beyond the boundaries of voice acting, such as working as idols and appearing in variety shows, so we had a variety of classes so that we wouldn’t have any problems after graduation.

—Do students create their own works at school?

At the end of each year of high school, there is a “graduation project exhibition,” where students present the results of their studies over the year.

—If you get a job as a voice actor, would you like to work on a sports anime?

I would like to work on a character who has a lot of emotional ups and downs, like crying and getting angry, rather than a sports anime. I’d like to play a character with a distinctive quality that will remain in the viewer’s mind, and I’d also like to express crying in my voice alone.

—I know that you also work as an actor, but how did you get started?

I went to a high school for voice actors, so at first I only wanted to be a voice actor. But as I mentioned earlier, some of the classes at school included singing practice and acting, so I watched a lot of dramas and movies to study acting, which I found enjoyable, and I decided that I wanted to be involved in dramas as an actor as well, not just as a voice actor.

—Do you have an actor you are aiming for?

I would like to be an actor as well as a voice actor in dramas. I personally like Kanna Hashimoto, but she plays a wide range of roles from comedy to serious acting, so I still use her as a reference for my acting.

—What do you do on your days off?

I went to a high school for voice actors, and I still love anime. Recently, I’ve been into “Blue Rock” and “Yakuya no Hitori Goto (One Man’s Life in an Apothecary). I also watched “Mushi Shi” a while ago.

—What are your goals for the future?

My goal is to become an actress or voice actor who is active in various fields. I really enjoyed doing gravure work this time, so I definitely want to continue doing gravure work in the future. Also, in my private life, I would like to expand my repertoire of cooking. I often make simple dishes such as stir-fried vegetables and pot-au-feu, but I can only cook as much as I can hold in both hands, so I would like to increase my repertoire in the future.
