Suspect, who held an internship at a major manufacturer, photographed being sent home on January 9.

I’ll walk you home.

With these words, the man entered the young woman’s apartment and sexually assaulted her when she was reluctant to go.

On January 8, Shimura Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested Kazuki Okada, 29, a company employee living in Setagaya Ward, Tokyo, on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse. Okada works for a major manufacturer. He allegedly committed an indecent act with a female college student in her 20s who was participating in an internship program at the company.

Okada was in charge of internship work and met Ms. A last summer. Since then, they have kept in touch individually. The Okada suspect is alleged to have misused his position as the person in charge of the company to which the female college student applied, and solicited Ms. A with the following sweet words: ‘I’ll give you advice on job hunting.

I will give you advice on job hunting,” and “If you have any concerns about the employment examination, please let me know. In November of last year, after the internship, Okada and Ms. A met again at a coffee shop. A few days later, Okada invited Ms. A to join him at an izakaya (Japanese-style pub), where they drank until late at night.

I wanted them to go home.

After drinking, Okada followed Ms. A to her apartment in Tokyo, offering to take her home, despite her refusal. He went up to her room and sexually assaulted her at around 4:00 a.m. on November 30.

After the trouble, Mr. A consulted a friend. Ms. A told the police, ‘I wanted her to leave, but it was hard for me to say no because she was from a company I wanted to work for. The suspect, Okada, on the other hand, denied the crime, saying, “I was at [Ms. A’s] house, but I didn’t see her. I was with Ms. A at her home, but I never touched her body.

If the crime is true, it is extremely malicious. Former Kanagawa Prefectural Police detective and crime journalist Taihei Ogawa said, “Crime itself is bad, but the crime was committed by an aspiring criminal.

The crime itself is bad, but it is even worse if he took advantage of his superior position as the person in charge of the company he wanted to work for and made a vulnerable female student the object of his desire. I hear that similar problems occur quite often in the job hunting process. Even if it does not develop into an incident, there are cases where hiring managers call female university students out for drinks. They make excuses such as, “I wanted to see how you would respond to unreasonable requests.

If it is a request from an employee of the company they wish to join, college students will not easily refuse it in order to get a job offer. Companies should thoroughly educate their recruiters and other personnel on compliance. It is people in superior positions who are expected to be strictly disciplined.

The job hunting incidents revealed this time may be just the tip of the iceberg. Students who are in a vulnerable position should also have the courage to consult with their schools and the police if they are victimized.

Solicited by saying, “I’ll give you advice on job hunting.”
He denied committing the crime when questioned.
