The first big wave in Japanese cinema in 2022 will be Spider-Man: No Way Home, which opened in theaters on January 7th.

First of all, let&#8217;s take another look at where this film stands. This is the third film in the &#8220;Spider-Man&#8221; series (also known as the &#8220;Home&#8221; series because of the &#8220;Home&#8221; in the title) starring Tom Holland. This series is also a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU ) , represented by The Avengers, and the story is connected to other MCU films. In chronological order

And so it goes. This will be the sixth appearance of Tom Holland&#8217;s version of Spider-Man. (For those who want to enjoy every detail of the film, it is recommended to complete the entire MCU and Sony Spider-Man Universe, including Venom.)

But originally, the Spider-Man, Amazing Spider-Man and Home series were all independent, with different lead actors, and were not connected. The &#8220;Home&#8221; series is part of the MCU, so it is linked to that series, but it also stars a different actor than the first two series, so it is a completely different film (think of the alternate 007 series). The idea that they would be linked was, of course, not even expected by many at the time of their respective releases.
However, a gimmick called &#8221; multiverse&#8221; is introduced here. As you can see from the fact that it is not uni (one) but multiverse (many), it is based on the multiverse theory (the idea that there are multiple universes).
To put it simply, the multiverse is a state in which parallel worlds on the vertical axis, which do not interfere with each other, are connected on the horizontal axis and interfere with each other.
This allows the &#8220;Spider-Man&#8221; films from each world to come together in one world. Spider-Man: Spider-Verse&#8221; is the easiest to understand, but &#8220;Super Robot Wars&#8221; and &#8220;Kamen Rider&#8221; are also examples of the Multiverse.
In other words, the &#8220;Spider-Man&#8221;, &#8220;The Amazing Spider-Man&#8221;, and &#8220;Home&#8221; series were supposed to be independent films, but they are actually parallel universes that are connected by an &#8220;incident&#8221; that happened in &#8220;Spider-Man: No Way Home&#8221;. In fact, they are connected by an &#8220;incident&#8221; in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The first film in the Spider-Man series starring Tobey Maguire was released in 2002, so it took almost 20 years for this dream project to come true.

Moreover, the MCU has been hinting at the introduction of the &#8220;Multiverse&#8221; for a long time, and the last film, &#8220;Spider-Man: Far From Home&#8221;, introduced a certain character, which caused a stir among the audience.
Before that, time travel was depicted in films such as &#8220;Doctor Strange&#8221; and &#8220;The Avengers: Endgame&#8221;, and after &#8220;Spider-Man: Far From Home&#8221;, the concept of the multiverse was explained in more detail in Disney Plus drama films such as &#8220;Wanda Vision&#8221; and &#8220;Loki&#8221;. The concept of the multiverse, familiar to American comic book fans, was slowly instilled in multiple films.

In addition, Spider-Man: No Way Home was completely prepared for the appearance of the magic-using Doctor Strange as the one who causes the multiverse. Spider-Man: No Way Home is a film that incorporates the biggest gimmick of the multiverse, but at the same time takes great care not to lose the life-size and familiarity of the Spider-Man content. The multiverse in this story begins when &#8220;Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, goes to consult Doctor Strange after the whole world finds out that he is a high school student.
Unlike his mentor, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Peter (Tom Holland) tries not to reveal his true identity to protect his privacy (and not to endanger his family, girlfriend and friends), but in Spider-Man: Far From Home Peter (Tom Holland) has been trying to keep his identity a secret (so as not to expose himself), but his enemies in Spider-Man: Far From Home spread his true identity, and both his best friend and girlfriend are denied admission to the university.
In order to protect their future, he turns to Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and asks him to perform a spell that will make everyone in the world forget who Spider-Man is. However, during the ritual, an accident occurs and beings from another universe who &#8220;know&#8221; Spider-Man are sucked into the spell. &#8230;&#8230;

Spider-Man&#8217;s action philosophy has always been to &#8220;protect the people he cares about,&#8221; and this development has resulted in the creation of the Multiverse. Moreover, he tries to &#8220;save&#8221; Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) and the Green Goblin (Willem Defoe) instead of &#8220;defeating&#8221; them.
Spider-Man: No Way Home&#8221; is amazing in that the essence of the film remains the same despite the increase in scale, and the theme of the film about how a hero should be is excellent in that it remains &#8220;our Spider-Man&#8221; throughout.
The story, the action, the characters, the tricks. The story, the action, the characters, the gimmicks&#8230; &#8220;Spider-Man: No Way Home&#8221; is a festival film that will go down in film history, but it never forgets to be &#8220;Spider-Man&#8221;. There are still a lot of surprises hidden in the movie, and even the small details, casual dialogues, and items that appear in the movie are filled with love. In a sense, it is the ultimate fan movie made by professionals.
It is my personal opinion that &#8220;Spider-Man: No Way Home&#8221; is a movie that you will remember for the rest of your life. 2 hours and 29 minutes long, it is a blockbuster movie, but when I watched it for the first time, I cried from the beginning to the last scene. I cried from the beginning to the last scene. It&#8217;s not something you can encounter more than once in a lifetime.
I urge you to review the film thoroughly and go to the cinema well prepared.
