From “Dutch Wife” to “Love Doll”… “Orient Industry’s Achievements in Breaking New Ground in the Pursuit of Realism
Orient Industry, creator of “Love Doll”
Orient Industry, a long-established manufacturer of love dolls supported by many fans, regrettably closed its business on September 20. The company’s website now has a greeting from Hideo Tsuchiya, the president of the company, on its top page.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to all of you who have supported our company over the years. We regret to inform you that the Ueno Gallery & Showroom was closed on September 20. Thank you very much for your support over the years.
The company states that the decision to close operations was made because Mr. Tsuchiya, the founder and president of the company, decided to retire, prioritizing his health. The company will continue to provide maintenance and support services at the plant.
Orient Industries was founded by Tsuchiya in 1977. The company was founded in 1977 by Mr. Tsuchiya, who started the company with the idea of fundamentally improving the existing “Dutchwife,” a vinyl type inflated with air, which was quite crude in terms of both production and appearance. This was triggered by the need to develop a superior dutch wife after hearing stories of disabled people who were not taken seriously in the sex industry and were having trouble with sexual treatment. That is why the company’s products were only sold to disabled people when it first started business.
The company’s goal was to “develop an image of a woman who can provide ‘peace of mind. The “love dolls” developed by the company are not only for sexual purposes, but have become deeply involved in people’s lives and loved by many people. The name “love doll” was first used by the company’s fans to distinguish it from the traditional “Dutch wife. Since 2001, “love dolls” have evolved over the years by using silicone as a material and adopting a skeleton. Many people have been fascinated by their beauty, which is different from that of humans while pursuing realism, and even photo books and video games have been produced. Today, “love doll” fans are not limited to men, but include many women as well.
Today, TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), a newer material than silicone, has become the mainstream because it is less expensive. Many of them seem to be made in China. However, there is no doubt that it was Orient Industry, the “originator” of the love doll, that made the “love doll” such a major player in the market.
This magazine has covered the company twice in the past. We would like to take a look back at the Orient Industries of the past based on articles and photos from those days. (Texts in parentheses are quotations from articles written at that time.)
