From “Dutch Wife” to “Love Doll”… “Orient Industry’s Achievements in Breaking New Ground in the Pursuit of Realism
Orient Industry, creator of “Love Doll
Orient Industry, a long-established manufacturer of love dolls supported by many fans, regrettably closed its business on September 20. The company’s website now has a greeting from Hideo Tsuchiya, the president of the company, on its top page.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to all of you who have supported our company over the years. We regret to inform you that the Ueno Gallery & Showroom was closed on September 20. Thank you very much for your support over the years.
The company states that the decision to close operations was made because Mr. Tsuchiya, the founder and president of the company, decided to retire, prioritizing his health. The company will continue to provide maintenance and support services at the plant.
Orient Industries was founded by Tsuchiya in 1977. The company was founded in 1977 by Mr. Tsuchiya, who started the company with the idea of fundamentally improving the existing “Dutchwife,” a vinyl type inflated with air, which was quite crude in terms of both production and appearance. This was triggered by the need to develop a superior dutch wife after hearing stories of disabled people who were not taken seriously in the sex industry and were having trouble with sexual treatment. That is why the company’s products were only sold to disabled people when it first started business.
The company’s goal was to “develop an image of a woman who can provide ‘peace of mind. The “love dolls” developed by the company are not only for sexual purposes, but have become deeply involved in people’s lives and loved by many people. The name “love doll” was first used by the company’s fans to distinguish it from the traditional “Dutch wife. Since 2001, “love dolls” have evolved over the years by using silicone as a material and adopting a skeleton. Many people have been fascinated by their beauty, which is different from that of humans while pursuing realism, and even photo books and video games have been produced. Today, “love doll” fans are not limited to men, but include many women as well.
Today, TPE (thermoplastic elastomer), a newer material than silicone, has become the mainstream because it is less expensive. Many of them seem to be made in China. However, there is no doubt that it was Orient Industry, the “originator” of the love doll, that made the “love doll” such a major player in the market.
This magazine has covered the company twice in the past. We would like to take a look back at the Orient Industries of the past based on articles and photos from those days. (Texts in parentheses are quotations from articles written at that time.)
Undercover shots of the production site, where every detail is carefully planned over a two-week period, until a love doll is born with “everything to your liking” (October 3, 2002 issue).
In 2002, this magazine covered the production site of Orient Industry’s love dolls. Mr. A, the person in charge of production at the time, had the following to say about the company’s love dolls.
《”We sell about 500 dolls a year. It takes two weeks to make one doll because most of the work is done by hand. The price is about 550,000 to 800,000 yen. Our customers are mainly in their 40s to 60s. Some of them are not looking for a partner for sexual intercourse, but rather to sleep with the doll and get comfort from it. Some even go to the trouble of renting an apartment for their love dolls because they don’t want their families to know about them. There are 24 types of faces. You can also choose the size of the body and the thickness of the hair. They are completely made to order.
When we were shown the factory where the love dolls are actually manufactured, we found the following.
When we visited the production site, the process was divided by part. First was the head, where four women were working in a room about eight tatami mats in size. Four women were working on the head in a room about 8 tatami mats in size. They were carefully applying color to the bare lips and eyelashes.
They are former art directors and stylists for movies. They check fashion magazines and adopt the latest makeup trends. Their facial features vary from soothing to tight. We improve it every year, using gravure models as references,” says Mr. A.
In a large room of 20 tatami mats, there are about 50 naked bodies. A closer look reveals that the breasts are of different sizes.
For example, a 157-centimeter-tall, long-limbed body has two different breast sizes, B and E,” Mr. A continues. The softness of the silicone gel material used is close to that of human skin. Baby powder is used to reduce stickiness and color the nipples. They are then dried in a drying room kept at 30°C for three hours.”
The hair is planted one by one with a special needle that divides into two halves. The hair is then planted one by one with a special needle that is divided into two halves, and is carefully shaped to the way men like it by looking at nude photos in photogravure magazines.
In the crotch, we put in a cartridge hole for insertion. There are five types. They differ in the width of the entrance and the degree of tightness. They are made of elastomer, a material softer than silicone, and contain a lot of oil, so wetness is not a problem.
From head to toe, the love dolls were brought to life through painstaking and delicate work.
The savior of the COVID-19 crisis! Monde Nome” makes even lonely home-drinking more enjoyable. June 4, 2009 issue)
It was in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis that this magazine visited Orient Industries to report on the “Monde Nome,” a boob-shaped tabletop drink server developed by the company. At the time, President Hideo Tsuchiya had the following to say about the reason for the development.
“The world is in a gloomy mood because of Corona, and we decided to at least provide a cheerful topic, so we decided to launch the product in November of last year. When you rub your right breast, the built-in electric pump operates and alcohol comes out from the nipple of your left breast. The regular price is 308,000 yen, but we are offering it for 198,000 yen as a prayer price for the end of Corona.
That’s quite a price, but it seems that they also offered a rental service for three days and two nights, six times in three months, for 100,000 yen. At a time when many people were depressed at home because they could not go out drinking in Corona, this “monde gnome” must have been a comfort to the soul.
