44-Year-Old Man Faces Marijuana Suspicion as Middle School Girls Report Hallucinations

“Try smoking a cigarette.”

 

The man is said to have deceived underage girls by telling them to “try smoking” and then made them use marijuana. 

On July 14, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Tomohiro Atsumi (44) of unknown occupation from Katsushika Ward for violating the Cannabis Control Law (possession). Atsumi is accused of giving marijuana to underage girls, known as “Tōyoko Kids,” around the Shinjuku Toho Building.

“The incidents occurred on January 7 and May 17 of this year. Atsumi is said to have been living on a rooftop landing of a building in Kabukicho, Shinjuku, with a mattress. Several middle and high school girls were present there.

Atsumi allegedly deceived three of these underage girls by telling them the marijuana was cigarettes. In January, a 110 emergency call reported a man smoking marijuana, prompting the police investigation. Atsumi was found with 0.1 grams of dried marijuana.” ( reporter from the social affairs department)

 

“Carried away by the wind”

 

The magazine’s photographer captured images of Atsumi being transported. In the back seat of the transport vehicle, he grimaced and displayed a defiant attitude.

 

During police questioning, Atsumi reportedly denied the charges, saying:

 

“I did use marijuana, but it wasn’t mine. It was blown by the wind or was in the blanket I was sleeping on. Since I didn’t know whose it was, I thought it was okay to use it.”

 

The statements from the girls who were allegedly victimized are also shocking. After being offered the drug, they experienced terrifying hallucinations:

 

“The sky looked green. I couldn’t walk and saw hallucinations. It definitely wasn’t a cigarette.”

 

Atsumi frequently visited Kabukicho, so there might be other victims as well.
