George Clooney’s Support for Biden’s Withdrawal Linked to Human Rights Lawyer Wife

Hollywood top star George Clooney, a two-time Academy Award winner, caused a stir with a bombshell op-ed in the New York Times (July 10) urging President Biden to withdraw from the November presidential election. This has intensified the discussion within the Democratic Party about Biden’s withdrawal. New information has emerged about the background. 

George Clooney, who won Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor in “Syriana” (2006) and for Best Picture as a producer of “Argo” (2012), has written a scathing op-ed for the New York Times. He argues that while President Biden saved democracy by defeating Trump in 2020, he must step aside this time to allow someone else to continue that mission.

“The Joe Biden I saw three weeks ago at a fundraising event was not the Joe Biden of 2010. He was not the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same person we saw in the debates with Trump.’”

He pointed out Biden’s transformation and decline.

 

“I love Joe Biden. I consider him a friend and I trust him.”

 

He then added. 

“However, the battle he cannot win is a fight against time. None of us can win that.”

“With this president, winning in November (the presidential election) is impossible.”

He then suggested that it’s time to end Biden’s campaign and support a new candidate.

Clooney, a supporter of both the Democratic Party and President Biden, had just raised a record $30 million (about 4.7 billion yen) for the president last month, alongside actress Julia Roberts. 

Meanwhile, Amal Clooney, George Clooney’s wife and an internationally renowned human rights lawyer, signed a proposal by the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, calling for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu on war crime charges, alongside Hamas leaders, due to the large number of civilian deaths in the Israeli military’s operations against the Islamic organization Hamas in the Palestinian territories.

In response, President Biden condemned it as outrageous and added.

“There is no moral equivalence between Israel and Hamas.”

It was claimed that Amal hinted at asking the court for sanctions that could lead to expulsion from the U.S.

 

According to the Daily Mail, when Clooney learned about this, he got angry and called the White House to protest. Since then, his relationship with the President has become strained. 

Amal was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and graduated from Oxford University. She later earned a Master of Laws degree from New York University. She works as a lawyer specializing in international law and human rights.

Her clients include Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks; Yulia Tymoshenko, the former Prime Minister of Ukraine; and Nadia Murad, the Iraqi human rights activist and Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

In September 2014, she had a grand wedding with George Clooney in Venice, Italy. Amal gained attention for being the woman who married the previously single Clooney, and they have since had two children.

Meanwhile, former President Trump, who is reported to be in a strong position against concerns about President Biden’s age, faces some opposition within the Republican Party regarding his potential candidacy.
