Komatsu Suspect Continues to Beat Live-in Woman

‘A 24-year-old woman is down and unconscious. Her lips are white.”

The man called 119 around 4:30 p.m. on September 23. Firefighters and police officers rushed to the apartment in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture, and found the young woman collapsed in the living room. She was immediately taken to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after 7:30 p.m. on the same day.

The next day, the Kashiwa Police Station of the Chiba Prefectural Police arrested a suspect, Kaito Komatsu, 22, a self-proclaimed freelance businessman who had been living with the deceased woman, A, on suspicion of assault. According to the police, Komatsu beat Ms. A for about 20 minutes starting around midnight on September 10, and Ms. A had multiple bruises on her body that appeared to have been caused by the beating.

The suspect admitted to hitting Ms. A. The report was made on the 23rd, which means that he left Ms. A with serious injuries for almost two weeks. The police are conducting an autopsy on Ms. A’s body and investigating the cause of death and Komatsu’s motive for beating her.

Former professional boxer kicked her in the face with his foot

Trouble between men and women who appear to have been in a relationship is increasing. Most of the victims are women. The following is a list of major incidents that were uncovered this year (age at the time).

In January, a former professional boxer, 32, was arrested on suspicion of assault. On Christmas night of the previous year, he got into an argument with a woman in her 20s with whom he was dating, and kicked her in the face and other parts of her body. The woman suffered a fracture of the inner wall of her right orbit and other serious injuries, including a month’s total recovery.

In January, a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was resentful that a woman he was dating had ended their relationship. He ambushed her near her place of work and stabbed her to death with a knife.

In June, the 22-year-old man turned himself in to the police and was arrested on suspicion of murder. He ambushed a female university student who refused to continue a relationship with him in front of her apartment, and stabbed her multiple times to death with a kitchen knife he was carrying. He often threatened and assaulted the woman, telling her that he would kill her if she left him.

In several cases, the police intervened in advance and held discussions with the victims. In some cases, the police intervened in advance and held discussions with the perpetrators, instructing them not to approach the women any further. But even though the assailants showed signs of remorse, saying, ‘I won’t go near her anymore,’ I don’t think they were really convinced. Some cases have resulted in disastrous consequences. …… In the future, we may need to consider how the authorities should deal with problems between men and women.

It is too late to do anything after a human life has been lost. Perhaps we need to change our attitude of non-intervention because it is a private matter, and take action with enforcement power.
