What was revealed at the trial was the desperate adulterous relationship between the two. The defendant, Shuri Katagiri, 36, who worked at a high school in Obihiro City, Hokkaido, and Asako Miyata, then 47, a former co-worker, were in an affair.

Katagiri was “cornered to the limit” and felt that it was impossible to continue or end the relationship, so on May 30, 2010, he strangled Miyata to death in a car parked in Obihiro City by strangling her with a seatbelt. The prosecution disagreed with the verdict and appealed on August 14. Let us look back at the irreparable relationship between Miyata and Miyata.

The defense and other arguments revealed the desperate situation of the couple, who were both married and had children together. They began dating around 2006, but the following year Katagiri began hoping to end the relationship. According to the defense, Ms. Miyata refused the request, and the Katagiri defendant paid about 7 million yen to break up with her, but at the most she received 666 incoming calls a day.

Mr. Miyata also told him that he would be in front of his house and that he would kill his baby and wife if he did not divorce her. When Katagiri, mentally cornered, told him just before the crime that he had no choice but to die, Miyata is said to have nodded in agreement. The prosecution was seeking 13 years in prison, but based on the defense’s arguments and other factors, it appears that the court applied the charge of consent murder instead of murder.

FRIDAY Digital” reported the case in detail in an article distributed on June 9, 2010. We would like to recount the complicated relationship and background between the two men (some parts of the article have been corrected).

I dug a hole and buried him.

I’m going to Kushiro.”

She told her husband and children that she was going to Kushiro, and drove away. However, she was found not in Kushiro but in Obihiro, about 150 km to the east. Her body was found under the ground wearing clothes.

Miyata, who lived in Kitami City, Hokkaido, left her home before noon on May 29 last year. Until the evening of the same day, she was communicating with her family via SNS, but on the following day, May 30, she could not be reached. Her husband, concerned, called the Hokkaido Prefectural Police.

My wife hasn’t come home. I have lost track of her whereabouts.

On the 31st, he filed a missing persons report. When the police interviewed the husband, a man emerged in the line of investigation.

He is the defendant Katagiri. When the police interviewed him voluntarily on June 1, Katagiri admitted that he had met with Ms. Miyata and stated, “I strangled her to death. He said, “I strangled her to death. I carried the body in my car and dug a hole with a shovel and buried it.

In the presence of Katagiri, the police searched a wooded area in Obihiro City and found Miyata’s body in the ground. There were marks on his neck as if he had been strangled. The cause of death was asphyxiation. The police arrested Katagiri on suspicion of abandoning the body.

Katagiri and Miyata used to be colleagues. They worked at different high schools in Hokkaido for six years from April 2004 to March 2010.

‘They both seemed to be very popular with students and parents. If there was a student absent for a long period of time, they would be very accommodating and offer advice. They never raised their voices. He was a mild-mannered and educated teacher. From that time on, Ms. Miyata and Mr. Katagiri were well known for their closeness.

The two had a partner, but grew close to each other. Their relationship came to an end with the worst possible outcome: a murder case.
