The suspect conspired with gang members to steal approximately 33 million yen in cash and more than 120 pieces of precious metals.

On May 24, the Wakayama Higashi Police Station of the Wakayama Prefectural Police announced the arrest of a man of unknown occupation on suspicion of residential burglary and theft. The suspect is Takefumi Miyamoto, 32, a former pitcher who joined the Giants as a second-round draft pick in the fall of 2008. He is alleged to have conspired with five members of the Yamaguchigumi VI, a designated crime syndicate, to break into the home of Mr. A, a company executive living in Wakayama City, and steal approximately 70 million yen worth of money and goods.

The incident occurred on the night of February 25 this year. The suspect and Mr. A were originally acquaintances. According to Fuji Television Network’s “FNN Prime Online,” just before the incident, Mr. A was asked by the suspect to have a drink with him.

While Mr. A was out having dinner with Miyamoto, his accomplices broke into the house. It is believed that they stole a safe containing cash and precious metals. The police have not revealed whether the suspects are guilty or not.

Man seriously injured for two months after being kicked

Miyamoto, an ace at Kurashiki High School (Okayama Prefecture), was expected to be a southpaw who would anchor the Giants’ pitching staff. However, he was removed from the Giants’ lineup in October 2012 without making a single appearance for the team. His life since then seems to have been in shambles.

This is the sixth time Miyamoto has been arrested. He became the owner of four cabaret clubs in Wakayama Prefecture, but some of them were operated without a license or under someone else’s name. He once kicked a painting worker in the lower back, seriously injuring him for two months, and was charged with inflicting injury.

His fifth arrest in October 2009 was for trouble with a woman he was dating at the time. The suspect, who was drunk at the woman’s home, got into an argument with her. He beat the woman’s face with his fist and was arrested for assault.

Miyamoto had recently been active as a You Tuber. In the video, he said, in a self-deprecating tone

In the video, Miyamoto, who had recently been active as a You Tuber, taunted himself, saying, “I’m going to be taken down again anyway. He’s going to get cracked again anyway, right?” (reading out the opinions of the viewers). I’ll do my best not to be taken down again. Be a gentleman. (reading out the opinions received from the audience) “Yes, sir. Yes, that’s right. Gentlemen, the Giants are.
