≪The trial of a 17-year-old boy with an undetermined residence who was charged with murder for stabbing an unacquainted woman to death at a commercial facility in Fukuoka City in August 2020 is underway at the Fukuoka District Court (presided over by Judge Hitomi Takebayashi). Following the <a href="https://friday.kodansha.co.jp/article/255290">first part of the trial, &#8220;The boy who stabbed a 21-year-old woman to death said he did it for sexual purposes</a>&#8230;&#8221;, the shocking details of the boy&#8217;s life came to light.

<h3>Why the boy strongly desired his mother, but was also disgusted by her</h3>
The professor said, &#8220;There were times when I wondered about the information I had obtained from the evaluation. I had some doubts, so I adopted information that mainly came from multiple sources,&#8221; he said. According to this, first, the physical abuse was mainly from the older brother.
 The father was mainly violent toward his eldest son (older brother). There was not so much violence against the boy. But the older brother was violent toward the boy. He hit him, kicked him, shot him with an air gun, choked him, etc.&#8221;
Neglect was from the mother.
 The boy&#8217;s presence in the mother&#8217;s life was thin. His existence was ignored. The record of the Child Guidance Center says, &#8216;The mother lacks the ability to take care of the household. It does not say that there is a problem. The elementary school homeroom teacher&#8217;s report also states, &#8220;The mother is involved with the eldest daughter, but is weak with the other two siblings. The mother herself has a vague recollection of her brother&#8217;s and the boy&#8217;s upbringing and cannot remember.&#8221;
In addition to neglect, the mother was also found to be &#8220;involved in promoting the child&#8217;s problematic behavior.
 She bought cigarettes, air guns, and adult magazines for the older brother and the younger boy when they were toddlers and in early elementary school, at their request. I have not heard of many such cases. I guess he couldn&#8217;t form a relationship with the child, so he tried to do what he wanted by begetting (i.e., giving things).&#8221;
That&#8217;s not all. One of the most serious problems in the family where the boy grew up was sexual. I don&#8217;t know of any family with sexual problems of this magnitude,&#8221; the professor asserts.

The boy&#8217;s family was in an environment where the boy could see adult content owned by his father, and the boy had witnessed his parents&#8217; sexual intercourse. In addition, there were times when &#8220;the older brother was performing sexual acts on the mother.
 The older brother would lick his mother&#8217;s breasts and assist her in masturbation. The Child Guidance Center has taken the older brother into temporary custody for this reason. Also, from the time the boy was 8 to 10 years old, the older brother would make the boy lick his penis. The mother would kiss the boy deeply and say, &#8216;That&#8217;s normal in Europe and America.'&#8221;
The mother once explained to a psychiatrist that &#8220;we are a sexually open family. On another occasion, when the boy was in a psychiatric hospital, he was found trying to turn in an adult magazine. The brother said in his statement, &#8220;The mother encouraged my brother&#8217;s sexual interest. He said, &#8220;I go crazy when I&#8217;m involved with my mother.
The boy also has a characteristic of &#8220;compulsive masturbation in public that he cannot stop.&#8221; In the past, the facility reported that he was &#8220;masturbating in public in the facility. He began masturbating when he was in his early elementary school years. The professor testified that this was &#8220;extremely precocious for a child&#8217;s sexual behavior.
It was not only sexual behavior that the mother observed. The mother regularly told the boy, &#8220;I wish you were dead,&#8221; &#8220;I don&#8217;t want you,&#8221; and &#8220;Die,&#8221; among other things. The professor explained that this constituted psychological abuse. The boy once attempted suicide at the facility and said that he tried to hang himself because he remembered what his mother had said to him.
 The relationship with the mother is very important when examining the psychological conditions that lead to the crime. The mother refused to take care of the boy from early on. The boy strongly desired his mother, but on the other hand, he strongly rejected and disliked her. The juvenile exhibits characteristics such as a lack of empathy and a sense of guilt.&#8221;

<h3>The boy felt &#8220;more despair than ever.</h3>
The professor said that the boy &#8220;needs to be brought up in a medical juvenile home for therapeutic nurturing. This is a different view from the family court&#8217;s decision that &#8220;criminal punishment is appropriate. The professor said that although the abuse had resulted in a lack of empathy and a sense of guilt, there was a high possibility that this could be corrected with appropriate measures.
 &#8216;We didn&#8217;t do what we should have done. In particular, the issue of juvenile sexuality has not been addressed at all. The sooner the better. They have been betrayed by others and have not learned to trust people. It will take a long time to give him a sense of trust, but it will be possible.&#8221;
The boy had been separated from his family since he was 10 years old, and just prior to the incident, his mother refused to take him into her care as he was about to be released on parole from a juvenile reformatory. This caused him to feel hopeless, helpless, and anxious, and the professor analyzed the situation as follows.
 The boy told me that he felt &#8216;more hopeless than ever. He sought intimacy, including sexuality, with women as a means of defense and escape from the distorted nurturing relationship at home. Feeling inferior and fearful of rejection, he prepared a weapon as a means of evasion. He may have mistakenly believed that if he could suppress resistance by threatening her, the victim would also seek an intimate relationship with him. However, the unexpected resistance and rejection he encountered led him to a state of confusion, which he embodied as intense anger, leading him to murder the victim.&#8221;
Regarding the connection between sexual acts and loneliness, he added, &#8220;For a 15-year-old, ninth grader to be alone is a tremendous pain. It is common for sexual acts to occur as an escape from reality. There are many children in children&#8217;s homes who, when they think about their parents, feel anxious or disgusted, and they inevitably masturbate themselves,&#8221; he testified from a position that has been involved in child abuse issues for many years.
At the trial on March 15, the prosecution stated, &#8220;The crime was highly brutal. The defense asked for the boy to be sent to a medical reformatory on the grounds that &#8220;the trauma caused by the abuse in the family has affected his problematic behavior. And the mother of a woman whose life was suddenly taken by the boy said, &#8220;She has been suffering for a long time. I cannot forgive him. Please put me in prison for the rest of my life.
What does his mother think of the boy and the woman now that she refused to take in the boy, who was admitted to a children&#8217;s self-support facility at the age of only 10 and was finally released on parole from the juvenile reformatory after being improperly fostered? And how did the boy accept the appeal of the woman&#8217;s mother?
The verdict will be handed down on the 25th.
