In the age of Reiwa, an unexpected figure is trending among middle and high school girls, working women, and housewives. It is singer Akihiro Miwa (87).

Akihiro Miwa’s “Akihiro Miwa: Ai no Moya Moya Moya Sodanshitsu” (“Moya Moya Sodanshitsu”), broadcast on NHK E, has captured the hearts of lost girls of all ages. It is slowly and steadily drawing an upward curve in popularity and attention.

The word ‘Miwa-san, yabasai (amazing)’ comes up frequently in girls’ group talks these days. Immediately after the broadcast, the words spoken by Miwa were all over the place. The key line, ‘A smile is a handbill of passage in this world,’ spoken by Miwa at the conclusion of the program, has become particularly popular.

The program that triggered the “Miwa boom” used to be “Moya Moya Sodanshitsu,” a special program that was broadcast irregularly once every few months. The concept of the program was, in essence, life counseling. The studio set was made of computer graphics, and the cast consisted of Miwa, NHK announcer Kozo Takase, and a consultant who hid his eyes with a mask.

After the broadcast, viewers inquire about a rerun of the program. Although the viewer rating is less than 1%, support from the F demographic (female viewers) has been steadily increasing. To begin with, it is unusual for NHK E to receive a response from viewers to its programs. The response was so strong that the program was put on the agenda of the programming committee and promoted to a monthly special program starting this May.

The production cost of each program is about 800,000 yen. Apart from Ms. Miwa’s fee, the only other costs are travel expenses for consultants, technology, and computer graphics. The most expensive part is the art. At Ms. Miwa’s request, special chairs and roses are used.

Words of wisdom that moved the consultants to tears

The “Moya Moya Advice Room” continues to attract many female viewers. What kind of words of wisdom does Miwa say? In the most recent episode on June 24, Miwa spoke to a woman who said, “I am not confident about my appearance and would like to become an ideal person like Haruka Ayase.

What would happen if there were a lot of people like Ms. Ayase? There are roses and chrysanthemums. It’s fun because there are a hundred flowers. (omission) If you are married, that’s enough. If you have that love, you will be saved. No matter how much money you have or how many millionaires you are, if you don’t have love, you are the most unhappy person. You are the opposite. You are happy because you are married. Hi, love billionaire.

In fact, if you search the Internet for “Moya Moya Sodan Shitsujo,” you will find many of Miwa’s quotes from the past.

For a woman who said, “I am being harassed by a senior employee at work,” Miwa replied, “I work at a zoo. There are all kinds of creatures on this earth. Don’t worry about it. For women who say, “I’m looking for marriage to reassure my parents,” please visit ……. There is no need to be in a hurry. Do you love yourself? If you don’t love yourself, how can you love others? Then there are others.

How is it that Miwa is able to continue to speak one heart-stirring quote after another?

Perhaps it is a natural product of her tumultuous life. Nowadays, prejudice and discrimination against homosexuality are seen as problems, but long before that, she fought against sexism and continued to present herself as a cultural figure. Because Ms. Miwa is a person who has fought against sexism and discrimination, she is able to listen sincerely to those who seek her advice on their many problems. The counselors leave with a real sense of satisfaction. Some of them are so moved that they begin to cry.

Miwa is rumored to participate in this year’s Kohaku Uta Gassen (Red and White Singing Contest). At the age of 87, Miwa is gaining momentum.
