He has continued to donate to “Ice Rink Sendai” (Sendai City), where he started competing for more than 10 years, with the total amount exceeding 30 million yen. He also donated all the incentive money he received from the Olympics, saying that he wanted it to be used for the development of skaters, and donated 22 million yen in surplus from the 80,000 commemorative T-shirts he sold during the triumphal parade of 100,000 people in Sendai after winning gold at the 2014 PyeongChang Olympics. However, it is the Japan Skating Federation (JSF) that is really thinking, “If possible, we don’t want them to do that”. The reason is that for the federation, there is a system in place to receive money just for Hanyu’s presence.
