Actress Yume Shinjo’s Challenge of Trying a Brand New Short Hairstyle
Yume Shinjo tried short hair for the first time in her life. What is the new side she wants to show us?
In addition to her acting, Yume Shinjo graces the cover and front page of the June 3 issue of “FRIDAY” (Kodansha), and 100 cuts and a feature-length movie are available on the magazine’s paid website, “FRIDAY Subscription,” generating a great response.
We interviewed Shinjo, who is active in a variety of fields, making use of her natural expressiveness.
Cutting 25 cm of hair to step out of her comfort zone
“I turned 24 in April, and for the first time in my life, I had short hair. I cut 25 cm off my hair.”
When it came time to cut her hair, the hairdresser was worried about her boldness, but the image change was a great success. She laughs, “At first I felt uncomfortable with my short hair, but now I’m completely at home.”
She says, “I can spend much less time in the bathtub, and I spend less than half the time using a hair dryer. I also use less shampoo and treatment (laughs). I’ve realized that when you shorten your hair this much, a lot of things change.”
From the June 3, 2022 issue of “FRIDAY” (photo by Masaki Sone)In other roles besides “Kiramager,” she has mostly played the role of a high school student, but in this one, she is a 26-year-old researcher at a cosmetics company. “This time, however, I play the role of Mao Nakamura, a 26-year-old researcher at a cosmetics company and colleague of Ichika, played by Alice Hirose. I think that cutting my hair has been refreshing and made me look more mature in more scenes.
The drama is finally reaching its climax, and each scene where Chikumagawa (played by Kenichi Takito) plays a trick back, is getting more and more exciting towards the final episode. I think it will be more interesting if you watch the drama while thinking about what kind of relationship the characters will have in the end.”
How she spends her off-duty days: “I haven’t changed at all since I was a kid.”
In addition to her hairstyle and roles, there has been another change.
On the occasion of her 24th birthday, she opened a Twitter account, and her number of followers is already approaching 20,000.

Still a little reluctant to reveal her personal life on social media, we asked her how she spends her off-days.
When I asked her how she spends her off-duty days, she replied, “I watch anime, read manga, or play games. I haven’t changed since I was a kid (laughs). I probably won’t change for a long time to come. I don’t spend much time outside, so I think I’m really a cultural type of person.”
She intends to share her private life on social networking sites in the future.
“I want to make it a place where people can see a new side of me. I plan to update it at my own pace, just like me!”

She made her acting debut in the drama “3 Nen A Gumi: Ima kara Mina-san wa, Hitojichi Desu“ in 2019, and has been active in dramas and commercials since then.
