I went to an all-girls high school, but I had a lot of friends in the soccer team and used to watch their games. So, I was really surprised when I was offered the chance to play high school soccer

Saki Misaka (19) is a female singer who is extremely popular among the TikTok generation. She began her music career in elementary school, and in her first year of high school she performed in the 98th National High School Soccer Championship with “Tsunagete! and was in charge of the cheering song and “Minna no Anthem” for the 98th National High School Soccer Championships in her first year of high school. She made her major label debut last November, and says that her music career began when she met a Japanese female artist.

My father was in a band and my mother was a good piano player, so music was a part of my life from an early age. When I was in kindergarten, I was given an album by Superfly as a birthday present. When I was in kindergarten, that’s when I started singing. When I was in the fourth grade, I started going to a dance school, which led me to learn vocals as well. After that, I started doing solo gigs at live houses in Osaka and on the streets. If I perform on the street in a normal city, I will be arrested by a cop, so I used a street live space in Umeda that was run by a radio station.”

To perform at this live space, I was required to submit an original composition, and it was there that I took on the challenge of composing a song for the first time in my life, which led me to my current activities.

It was when I was in the second or third year of junior high school that I began to compose songs and become active in earnest. Around this time, I appeared on a TV music variety show, and someone who saw the show uploaded a video of me on SNS, which seemed to have created a buzz without my knowledge. A friend at school told me, ‘You’re getting too many recommendations on TikTok, you’re in trouble (laughs).”

Misaka’s YouTube-related videos have now received more than 60 million views on YouTube and 600 million views on TikTok. (Laughs). Although she is conscious of writing songs from the same perspective as her peers, she says that the two years of the Corona disaster “was sometimes painful.

“After January of ’20, when the high school soccer season was over, we were supposed to perform in Tokyo and Osaka, but it was canceled. At that time, I thought, ‘I’ll be able to do it in the winter,’ but things got worse and worse, and it was hard every day to realize that the gigs were getting further and further away. I wasn’t even able to go to school because of my music activities, and I also lost my school trip. During the period of self-restraint, I played “Animal Crossing” on the Nintendo DS all the time. More than 10 of my friends were online all the time, and I thought to myself, “Everyone is playing games” (laughs). I also uploaded videos of my live performances on SNS, and it was a time when I felt connected to people even if I couldn’t see them, and I rediscovered the power of music.

In March of this year, Misaka held a high school “graduation” concert at Zepp Yokohama, a long-sought-after venue. Her mission is to quickly take the career step that had stalled her at the Corona Disaster.

I aim to perform at the Budokan by the time I turn 20. In order to achieve this goal, I want to steadily build up what I can do one by one. I will do my best so that I can perform in bigger and bigger venues!
