NHK’s morning television series “Chimu-dodon” got off to a good start.

The first episode aired on April 11 had a 16.7% viewership rating in the Kanto region (according to Video Research), surpassing the 16.4% rating for the first episode of the previous “Come, Come Everybody,” which was very popular for its three heroine storylines.

The story takes place in Okinawa, which this year marks the 50th anniversary of its reversion to Japan from the United States. The story is about the main character Nobuko Higa, played by Yuina Kuroshima (25), who has discovered the appeal of Okinawan cuisine, and her siblings aspire to become chefs in Tokyo with the help of neighboring families. Local dishes such as rafte and goya chanpuru (bitter melon stir-fry) make an appearance in every episode.

One of the highlights of the drama will be Kuroshima’s delicious eating. Just watching it makes you hungry. It is no wonder that Daiji Kobayashi, the production supervisor, commented, “Kuroshima’s deliciously eating the dishes is the best part of the production.

The cast that surrounds them is also strong and attractive. Yukie Nakama (42) plays Kuroshima’s mother, Nao Omori (50) plays his father, Haruna Kawaguchi (27) is his sister, Moka Kamishiraishi (22) is his younger sister, and Hairi Katagiri (59) is the high school music teacher. ……

According to “Josei Jishin” (April 26 issue), there was also a happening in which the main character from the historical drama “Kamakura-dono no 13-Nin” appeared.

It was Shun Oguri, 39, who played the role of Hojo Yoshitoki. According to the magazine, the filming studios for “Chimudo-don” and “Kamakura-dono no 13-nin” are very close to each other. It is said that it is an everyday occurrence for the actors to pass each other in the hallway.

One time, Mr. Oguri was standing at the entrance of the studio in the costume of Hojo Yoshitoki. He came to greet Yukie Nakama. I was surprised because Ms. Oguri and Ms. Nakama have been good friends since they co-starred in the drama “Gokusen” (Nippon Television) in 2002.

“Chimu Dotsu” was a successful start right after the the previous film, “Come, Come Everybody”. With the good performance of the cast, it is sure to be a blockbuster hit.
