“Purification camps.”

These camps, as they are called, have recently been set up in various locations in Russia. The detainees are Ukrainian civilians who have been abducted and forcibly transferred.

The Ukrainians are first confiscated and their passports and other identification documents are confiscated, and they are prevented from leaving the country. Next, their bodies are checked for tattoos, including the Ukrainian flag. They are also asked questions about their ideological beliefs and whether or not they are a bad influence on Russia.

Most of the camps are located near coal mines and natural gas extraction sites in Siberia and the Far Eastern Sakhalin Oblast. Even from Mariupol in southern Ukraine, which is closer to Russia, they are more than 7,000 km away in a straight line. Ukrainians are given jobs by ‘employment centers’ and are banned from leaving Russia for two years,” said a reporter from the international section of a national newspaper.

For Russia, forcibly transferred residents are a powerful “weapon. As “hostages,” they can exert pressure on the Ukrainian government. According to Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Pereshchuk, at least 40,000 residents have been abducted since the Russian invasion. This includes more than 2,000 children.

There is no shortage of reports of civilians being detained by the Russian military,” he said. The abduction of civilians is a clear violation of international law. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine has issued a statement of protest, saying, ‘Taking civilians hostage is a war crime as stipulated by the Geneva Convention, which prohibits taking civilians hostage.

60,000 Japanese who died in “Rageri

The fact of the transfer is also acknowledged by the Russian government. The sole purpose is “refugee protection. Including those who were transferred before the invasion, it is estimated that as many as 95,000 Ukrainians were moved to Russian territory. The harsh fate that awaits them is reminiscent of the tragic history of the former Soviet Union.

The concentration camp known as “Rageri” was created by Stalin during World War II. Many of them were set up in Siberia, where the weather was just as harsh and cold as this time. The prisoners were domestic political prisoners captured by the secret police, prisoners of war from hostile countries such as Japan and Germany, and people forcibly transferred from Poland and the Baltic states.

Life in Ruggeri was extremely harsh. The temperatures in the area were as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius, and they were not provided with adequate warm clothing or food. The houses were crude wooden structures with little protection from the wind. Toilets were poor, and sanitary conditions were extremely poor. They were forced to work from early morning until night and were even subjected to communist indoctrination. Of the nearly 600,000 Japanese alone who were interned, it is said that more than 10%, or about 60,000, died of starvation or disease.

Will something similar be done for Ukrainians?

The Ukrainians will not be forced to live in such misery as they did during World War II, but they will be used to help reduce the population of Russia and to replenish the labor force. Children who cannot work will be educated and brainwashed about what a great leader Vladimir Putin is.

In place of the residents taken away, Russian residents will move to Ukraine. The number of pro-Russian towns may increase rapidly.

It is a clear violation of human rights to abduct and forcibly transfer ordinary citizens. One wonders how much longer Russia’s brutality will continue. Professor Itsuro Nakamura of Tsukuba University, an expert on the situation in Russia, has this to say.

As long as Vladimir Putin remains in power, his tyranny will never end. No amount of criticism from Western countries will deter him. Putin cannot be stopped until the Russian people rise up and say that the government and military are wrong and overthrow the regime from within.

Innocent civilians are being separated from their families and forced to labor in a distant foreign country by an autocratic leader.
