The ultra-luxurious yacht was docked at a shipyard in Tuscany, central Italy.

It is 140 meters long, with six rooms, two helipads, a private pool, and even a movie theater. Named “Scheherazade,” the yacht was built by the German shipbuilding company Ruelsen over 20 years at an estimated cost of $700 million (about 84 billion yen). It is said to be owned by Vladimir Putin, 69, the president of Russia.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Italian authorities have launched an investigation. Putin’s assets are subject to a freeze in the European Union. Many of the sailors are said to belong to the Federal Security Service, which is in charge of protecting Russian VIPs. However, they have not been cooperative in the investigation, and it has been difficult to identify the owners.

According to the Russian government, Putin’s annual income is $133,000 (about 16 million yen) and he lives in a small apartment near Moscow. Incidentally, the annual income of the Japanese prime minister is about 40 million yen. In reality, however, Putin’s lifestyle is not as “modest” as it has been publicized.

In August 2012, Boris Nemchev, chairman of the opposition National Liberal Party (assassinated in 2003), revealed Putin’s extravagant hidden assets in a 32-page report. There are about 20 vacation homes. The most luxurious palace, located in a resort facing the Black Sea, cost $1.2 billion to build and has a floor space alone of 18,000 m2. Last January, anti-establishment activist Alexei Nawarinuy revealed the interior of the palace, which became the talk of the world.

It is not only the huge palaces that are astonishing. According to a report by assassinated Chairman Nemtchev, Putin’s “collection” includes the following items.

Four large yachts, including the “Scheherazade” mentioned at the beginning of this article

43 airplanes worth $1 billion

15 helicopters

The world’s most expensive wristwatch, the TOURBOGRAPH, is estimated to be worth $2 billion. ……

Total assets are estimated to be at least $200 billion (approximately 24 trillion yen). This figure is comparable to the $273.5 billion (approx. 33 trillion yen) of Elon Musk, CEO of the electric car company Tesla, who was ranked No. 1 in last year’s World’s Longest Man list (according to the economic media Bloomberg).

In addition to the hidden assets identified, he is said to own numerous other stocks. 37% of shares in ‘Surgutnevchgas,’ Russia’s two largest oil companies, and 4.5% in ‘Kasprom. He also holds a 75% stake in Switzerland’s ‘Gambar,’ according to a retired former senior Russian government official.”

Professor Itsuro Nakamura of Tsukuba University, an expert on Russian affairs, is outraged.

Most of the money was probably purchased with Russian taxpayers’ money. This is the privatization of the state. Even the toilet paper holders on his luxury yacht are decorated with gold plating. One could be forgiven for thinking that Vladimir Putin has been in power for more than 20 years because of his extravagance.”

Many soldiers are bleeding on the battlefields, and economic sanctions are making life increasingly difficult for the people. Meanwhile, a dictatorial leader is enjoying all the luxuries of life. It is a national tragedy.
