This was no wrestling hall. It was the venue for the world&#8217;s most prestigious &#8220;94th Academy Awards&#8221; ceremony.

Los Angeles, USA. The person who hit him was actor Will Smith. The person who was hit was comedian Chris Rock, who was serving as MC. The cause was that Rock made a derogatory joke about Smith&#8217;s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia.

That reminded me of an incident that happened more than 30 years ago.
It was in 1990, when film director Nagisa Oshima held a party to celebrate the 30th anniversary of his marriage to his actress wife Akiko Koyama.
It was almost time for the party to end. In front of about 1,500 guests, writer Akiyuki Nosaka took the stage. In front of the center microphone, he read out loud a congratulatory address written on a piece of paper in his hand.
 Thank you very much.&#8221;
After closing with the greeting, it was the moment when Mr. Oshima approached and bowed to Mr. Nosaka. Mr. Nosaka landed a powerful uppercut to Mr. Oshima&#8217;s left jaw.
The glasses she was wearing also flew off. Mr. Oshima staggered back a few steps and appeared to crumple to the ground, but this time, Mr. Oshima, who was holding the microphone in his right hand, landed a hard uppercut to Mr. Nosaka&#8217;s head, sending him crashing to the ground.

He hit back twice. The stage was in turmoil. Koyama-san, dressed in kimono, rushed in to stop him. The audience was also in an uproar, not understanding what was going on.
The wedding party unfolded peacefully. The incident that broke out at the last minute has been described as &#8220;unprecedented&#8221; by reporters at the time.
The reason, it seems, was a problem with the order of greetings. At the time, the organizer of the party to celebrate the marriage said
 Mr. Nosaka, who had arrived at the venue early in the day, apparently thought he would have time to deliver his congratulatory address earlier, but he may have been frustrated that it took forever for his turn to come around.

The &#8220;Live TV till Morning! (TV Asahi), the two had hit it off during their onstage fight. They seemed to make up soon after, but Mr. Koyama said at the time
 Both of us were like children. But you don&#8217;t find many attractive men like that. They both drank heavily and did what they wanted to do. They are men on a grand scale.
He laughed. Still, that fistfight probably didn&#8217;t turn out to be a serious problem because Mr. Koyama was there.
Mr. Oshima died in &#8217;13 at the age of 80. Mr. Nosaka passed away two years later in &#8217;15 at the age of 85. Some people say they will never meet in the afterlife, but I suspect the two of them are still getting along well and drinking heavily&#8230;
