Kasumi Arimura in a Deep-Neckline Dress and a 16-Year-Old Newcomer Who Shone with His Acting… The Glamorous Looks of Actors Who Stood Out at the “Busan International Film Festival”
The one who drew the loudest cheers was that male idol…
Waving to the crowd in a daring dress with a plunging neckline is actress Kasumi Arimura (33).
The 31st Busan International Film Festival opened on October 6 and closed in grand style on the 15th.From Japan, the film *Satoko Is Always*, starring Arimura, Hikari Ishida (54), and Hanaharu Himeno (16) in a triple lead role, as well as *Love and Such at This Age*, starring Masami Nagasawa (39), were entered in the competition section and generated significant buzz.
“On the first day, the red carpet event—part of the opening ceremony—took place, and many actors from Japan made an appearance. Arimura was particularly eye-catching. She wore a dress that was, unusually for her, quite revealing, and since Ishida and Himeno, standing on either side of her, were dressed in chic outfits, her glamour stood out even more.It was a beautiful sight to see her smiling and waving to the cheering crowd,” said a film magazine writer.
The film *Look Back* depicts the 13-year journey of two young girls bound by their passionate love for manga.Lead actress Ayazu Makita (24) wore a black sleeveless dress with dazzling embellishments around the neckline, while her co-lead, Natsuki Deguchi (25), looked stunning in a glamorous dress featuring striking red and black accents.
However, the one receiving even louder cheers than this glamorous cast of actresses was Shunsuke Michieda (24) of the idol group “Naniwa Danshi.”
“Mr. Michieda starred in the film *Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki*, which was entered in the Open Cinema section. This film is a live-action adaptation of the popular shōjo manga of the same name by manga artist Mika Yamamori, serialized in *Dessert* (Kodansha).
Michieda appeared on the red carpet alongside Seira Anzai (22), who played the heroine. Stepping out of a white luxury car, he wore a dark navy suit jacket with a glossy finish. Anzai wore a jet-black long dress that revealed her décolletage.“At that moment, an eerie atmosphere took hold, with screams ringing out not only from female fans from Japan but also from Korean female fans. It was the moment that drew the loudest cheers on the red carpet that day,” said the writer mentioned earlier.
Although no Japanese film won the top prize at this year’s film festival, 16-year-old Himeno—one of the three lead actors in *Satoko Is Always*—won the Best Actor Award. She achieved the remarkable feat of becoming the youngest winner in the history of the competition section, which was newly established last year.
“The film is a human drama with an original story depicting how the lives of three women named ‘Satoko’—who differ in age and upbringing—intersect. Although Himeno had no prior acting experience, she was discovered during an audition attended by approximately 300 people. The jury members who watched the film praised her highly, saying, ‘We’ve discovered a shining gem in the rough.’”(Writer mentioned above)
At the awards ceremony, Himeyama struggled to hold back her tears as she said,
“Thank you so much for taking notice of my acting, even though I’m still inexperienced,”
Arimura, who also starred in the film, remarked,
“It’s so precious that it’s almost a shame to blink—it’s hard to believe this was her first acting role. I feel it was inevitable that Ms. Himeno’s pure, fresh charm would reach audiences across the ocean,”
offered her congratulations.
This year’s film festival, graced by a star-studded cast, appears to have been a fruitful event for the Japanese film industry as well.
