<p>Television’s popular stars had quietly taken their relationship to the next level, going from “co-stars” to lovers before anyone knew it.</p>
<p>At around 9 p.m. on a weekday evening in mid-September, Satoshi Mukai (40) of the comedy trio Panther emerged from an unpretentious yakiniku restaurant in Tokyo. Mukai has introduced the restaurant several times as one of his favorite spots on Bescon Gourmet and Sakurai and Ariyoshi THE Night Party (both on TBS). It is a well-known establishment frequented by other celebrities, including Shinobu Hasegawa (48) of Sissonne and Akira Kawashima (47) of Kirin. Mukai was dressed casually in a purple-blue plaid shirt, black pants, and a cap, carrying nothing but his wallet and phone. Perhaps he had stopped by his favorite restaurant to enjoy a solo meal after work.</p>
<p><strong>“Mukai joined the Yoshimoto New Star Creation academy, commonly known as NSC, in 2005, and formed Panther in 2008 with Ryotaro Kan (44) and Takahiro Ogata (49). He is now a popular television personality with more than ten regular appearances across programs, including King’s Brunch (TBS), Hirunandesu! and DayDay. (both on Nippon TV), as well as regional television shows and radio programs. His ability to listen attentively and bring out the humor in guests, his conversational skills, and his reassuring presence as a host are among the best in the comedy world. He is even known as ‘the radio star of the Reiwa era.’ On a variety show in the past, it was revealed that his monthly income was ¥800,000 higher than that of his fellow Panther member Kan, making headlines. That gives you an idea of how highly his talent is regarded,”</strong> said a television industry insider.</p>
<p>After finishing his meal, Mukai climbed the stairs from the basement and started walking away. But then, for some reason, he suddenly turned around and began talking to someone still at the bottom of the stairs. Just as he finally seemed ready to leave, a charming woman popped her head out from behind him. Even beneath her low-pulled cap, her beautiful features were unmistakable. She was Yuko Wakabayashi (30), a TBS announcer. Apparently, the two had been enjoying a meal together at the yakiniku restaurant.</p>
<p><strong>“Wakabayashi joined TBS in 2019 and currently appears on popular programs such as Hiruobi and Sunday Japon. When she was 14 and living in New York, she came across news coverage related to the Great East Japan Earthquake, which inspired her to pursue a career as an announcer. She has since grown into one of the network’s leading announcers,”</strong> said an executive at an entertainment agency.</p>
<p>Wakabayashi glanced around warily, looking this way and that as she followed several meters behind Mukai. After crossing the road, they reached a coin-operated parking lot directly in front of them. While Mukai paid the parking fee, she casually made her way toward a particular car, as though she were familiar with it.</p>
<p>The car was the “first ultra-luxury vehicle of his life” that Mukai had shown off on his YouTube channel, Mukai and Osada’s Car Hot Spring Channel, which he runs with Shohei Osada (46) of the comedy duo Chocolate Planet. However, the doors appeared to be locked, and Wakabayashi stood anxiously by the passenger-side door. When Mukai returned and unlocked the car, she quickly climbed inside. Mukai then got into the driver’s seat. Both removed the black caps they had been wearing when leaving the restaurant, and their expressions looked noticeably more relaxed, perhaps relieved to finally be alone together inside the car.</p>

<p>About 15 minutes after the car pulled away, it arrived at a luxury high-rise condominium in Tokyo. The two went inside and did not emerge again. A source familiar with the situation revealed:</p>
<p><strong>“The truth is, they’re dating now. The two appear together on Yoru no Brunch, the nighttime counterpart to the popular information program King’s Brunch, with Mukai as the host and Wakabayashi as the presenter. Mukai also has numerous regular radio and television programs affiliated with TBS, so they often crossed paths at the network. Somewhere along the way, they seem to have grown closer. I’ve heard that they recently started living together in an apartment in Tokyo with convenient access to the network. They’re both at a good age, so I imagine they’re looking toward marriage.”</strong></p>
<p>When Mukai attended a preview screening of the film Is This Living? in April this year, he revealed his strong desire to get married, making comments that seemed to bring his girlfriend to mind.</p>
<p><strong>“I really, really want to get married. My ideal type is someone who always gives a little bow when I press the elevator button. Also, if we happen to be unlocking an auto-lock entrance at the same time, I’d like someone who takes out their own key anyway when I unlock the door.”</strong></p>
<p>Meanwhile, in 2022, FRIDAY broke the story that Wakabayashi was partially living with an “elite IT company executive,” with the two sharing a spare key. At the time, she said with a smile, “Work comes first. Above all, what I look for in a partner is sincerity!” Four years have passed since then, and she appears to have embarked on a new romance.</p>
<p>The two are familiar faces on television, but are the reports of their relationship and cohabitation true? FRIDAY sent a written inquiry to Yoshimoto Kogyo, the company Mukai belongs to, and received a positive comment from Mukai himself through the agency regarding the relationship.</p>
<p><strong>“Thank you for your continued support. I think I’ll talk about this on one of the following programs: CBC Radio’s #Mukai no Shaberikata, TBS Radio’s #Furatto, Nippon Broadcasting System’s Chari de 30-pun, or NHK Radio’s Ato wa Neru Dake no Jikan. I’d be grateful if you’d tune in.”</strong> (sic)</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Public Relations Department of TBS Television, Wakabayashi’s employer, responded: <strong>“We do not comment on the private lives of our employees.”</strong></p>
<p>It seems that the happy news of these two building a future together through a sincere love may not be far off.</p>
