“I Just Fell Madly in Love”: Nicole Kidman Reveals the Inside Story of Her Marriage to Tom Cruise

I wouldn’t mind giving up my career
Nicole Kidman (59) is drawing attention after opening up in the September issue of British *VOGUE* about her marriage to Tom Cruise (64) 35 years ago.
“Suddenly, at 22 or 23, I had a husband who was a major movie star. But it felt completely natural. We just fell madly in love. It was as simple as that,”
said Kidman. Although those around her opposed her marriage to a top Hollywood star, saying it would “have a major impact on her career,” Kidman said
“How could I not marry the person I love? I’d be happy to give up my career,”
She admitted that she prioritized her relationship with Cruise over her own career.
“Kidman and Cruise co-starred in the 1990 film *Days of Thunder*, which led to a romantic relationship, and they married a year later on Christmas Eve 1990. It was reported that Cruise saw one of Kidman’s movies, liked her, and cast her as his love interest in the film. They adopted their daughter Isabella in 1992 and their son Connor in 1995, and were considered a model couple, but they divorced in 2001. It’s rare for Kidman to speak this openly about her marriage to Cruise, and it’s causing a stir in the U.S. entertainment media,” said a Hollywood insider.
Kidman continued her acting career even after marriage, co-starring with Cruise as a married couple in *Far and Away* (1992) and Stanley Kubrick’s *Eyes Wide Shut* (1999), where they performed a bed scene that caused quite a stir.
She also appeared in *Batman Forever* (1995) and *To Die For* (1995), for which she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, and even after their divorce, *Moulin Rouge!* (2001) earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.
She then became the first Australian actress to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for *The Hours* (2002).She continued to rise to the ranks of Hollywood’s top stars by appearing in one hit film after another, such as *Cold Mountain* (2003), and concerns that her marriage to Cruise would affect her career proved to be unfounded. In fact, it could be said that her marriage to Cruise served as a catalyst for her blossoming as an actress.
The Possibility of a Reconciliation with Cruise
After her divorce from Cruise, Kidman remarried country singer Keith Urban (58) in 2006 and had two daughters with him, but she filed for divorce in September 2025. The divorce was finalized this past January.Although it was reported that Urban’s infidelity was the cause, Urban has denied the allegations.
Her marriage to Cruise helped advance her career, leading to great success in Hollywood. It is also believed that the finalization of her divorce from Urban paved the way for her recent decision to speak openly about her marriage to Cruise.
Kidman
“fell madly in love”
, it raises questions about whether there is any possibility of a reconciliation with Cruise—who is currently “single” after his breakup with Ana de Armas last October, despite rumors of relationships with Meg Ryan and Pamela Anderson that never materialized.
Amid this, according to the U.S. outlet *Page Six*, Kidman was spotted on a date with businessman Michael Reinstein in Portofino, Italy, in July, sparking rumors of a new romance.
Reinstain is a Los Angeles native and a graduate of the University of Southern California. He is a member of the California State Bar and founded the private equity firm “Regent” in 2013; he reportedly serves as the company’s chairman and CEO, with its headquarters in Beverly Hills.
Is this high-flying entrepreneur really Kidman’s true love? Or, given that she has brought up past relationships at this particular moment, is there a chance she might reconcile with Cruise? All eyes are on what lies ahead for the Hollywood superstar.
