Shuri Left Heartbroken by Ryoki Miyama Scandal—What It Means for Ran Ito, Who Celebrated Their Marriage

Reports alleging an affair between actor Ryoki Miyama (27) and former Takarazuka Revue actress Maria Kano (33) continue to make waves.

Miyama and Kanno reportedly grew close after co-starring in the musical “Crash Landing on You,” repeatedly meeting at city hotels in Tokyo and in the theater room of the Tokyo condominium where Miyama lives. After the reports emerged, the two issued statements acknowledging,

“It is true that we spent time together.”

However, they insisted that their time together was solely for the purpose of preparing for their roles. They have denied being involved in an affair, though it is difficult to say that their explanation has won public understanding.

The July 30 issue of “Shukan Bunshun” provided further details about the pair’s behavior even after the allegations surfaced. They appeared to be enjoying the commotion, and it was also revealed that Miyama and Kanno had exchanged enthusiastic emails with each other.

The magazine directly approached actress Shuri (35), Miyama’s wife, and published her response:

“I’m shocked.”

Speaking to “FRIDAY,” a television network source involved in an information program described the remark as a serious statement and explained:

“Before their marriage, when the broken engagement scandal involving Miyama and a female influencer came to light, Shuri remained silent. But this time, by openly expressing her distrust toward Miyama, it has become highly likely that there is a rift in their marriage.” (The same television network source)

The situation is likely no less personal for Shuri’s father, Yutaka Mizutani (74), and mother, Ran Ito (age undisclosed). In particular, Ito is said to be furious.

When Shuri announced her marriage and pregnancy on August 29 last year, it was Ran Ito who stepped in to support Miyama, who had been facing something of a backlash.

She posted a photo of herself with Shuri on Instagram, offering congratulations with messages such as:

“Congratulations from the bottom of my heart.”

“Mother has been watching over you all along.”

She then added the hashtag #RyokiMiyama, alongside #HappilyEverAfter and #Shuri.

“By deliberately including ‘Ryoki Miyama,’ she gave the impression that he had officially become part of the family. I think that was Ito’s way of showing kindness. Since Shuri had decided to ‘trust her husband,’ she chose to support them.” (An entertainment agency source who knows Shuri)

Likewise, when Shuri announced the birth of her first child on September 26 last year, Yutaka Mizutani commented:

“Congratulations, Shuri and Ryoki! The dinners we started having last year will now have one more person at the table, making them even livelier. Thank you both!”

By referring to Miyama by his first name, “Ryoki,” Mizutani also appeared to emphasize that there were no hard feelings toward him.

An entertainment reporter for a sports newspaper speculates:

“In other words, Mizutani and Ito went out of their way to welcome Miyama into the family despite everything that had happened.”

That is precisely why this latest scandal, occurring not long after the birth of their first child, is something they cannot simply overlook. It is not only a betrayal of Shuri, but also of Mizutani and Ito, who had supported Miyama.

“Whether or not Miyama actually had an affair with Kanno is probably less important to them than the fact that Shuri has been hurt. They cared for her that deeply. In particular, Ito and Shuri have always been extremely close—so close that they have been described as an inseparable mother-daughter pair.
