Ryoki Miyama Faces Double Affair Allegations—What Does It Mean for His Marriage to Shuri?

Both are married and have children
Actor Ryoki Miyama (27) has been caught up in allegations of a double affair. “Weekly Bunshun,” released on July 23, reported that he had repeatedly spent late-night hours with actress Maria Kano (33), a former top musumeyaku (leading female performer) of the Flower Troupe of the Takarazuka Revue, who co-stars with him in the musical “Crash Landing on You.” The two reportedly spent time together at hotels in Tokyo and in the theater room of Miyama’s condominium.
“Miyama’s alleged partner, Ms. Kano, married a non-celebrity man in 2021 and is now the mother of a two-year-old son. Since both parties are married and have children, if the reports are true, this would constitute a double affair, which has caused a major shock among the public,” says a reporter for a women’s magazine.
As reports of his close relationship with a co-star continue to attract attention, the focus is now on the future of his marriage to actress Shuri (35), as well as his relationship with his father-in-law, Yutaka Mizutani (74), and mother-in-law, Ran Ito (age undisclosed).
Shuri, in particular, has received considerable sympathy from the public in the wake of the controversy. She gave birth to their first child just last September and is currently juggling childcare with her busy acting career.
“In the currently airing TV Asahi drama ‘Oozora Airport: GATE24,’ Shuri plays the lead role, and in preparation for filming, there was a period from June when she returned to her family home with her child. The reports that her husband was allegedly inviting another woman into the theater room of their condominium during her absence have only intensified criticism of Miyama,” says a sports newspaper reporter.
What lies ahead for Miyama and Shuri?
Amid the situation, attention is also turning to the actions of Shuri’s father, veteran actor Yutaka Mizutani.
“Mizutani is well known for being a devoted husband to his wife, Ran Ito, and he is also known for being extremely protective of his daughter, Shuri. There is even a story that when a notorious incident occurred in their neighborhood in the past, he immediately sold the family home and moved into a highly secure condominium, putting his family’s safety first. He is also known within the industry for taking a strict stance toward scandals, to the point that there have even been rumors that he has refused to work with an actor involved in an affair,” says a television network insider.
Given that, it is easy to imagine the distrust Mizutani and those around him must feel toward Miyama over a scandal that has resulted in his beloved daughter and grandchild being hurt.
Amid all this, the biggest question is what lies ahead for Miyama and Shuri’s marriage. An entertainment industry insider told this website:
“Shuri herself seems to be angry about the thoughtless actions of her younger husband, Miyama, but at the same time, she also appears to be accepting the situation with something resembling resignation. The fact that they have a newborn child is another major factor. So, at this point, we haven’t heard anything about an immediate divorce. As for her father, Mizutani, there’s no doubt that he has complicated feelings about the situation, but it seems his stance is that it depends on what my daughter Shuri wants.”
The alleged double affair has caused a major stir, and attention is now focused on what decision Shuri, who has a young child, will make. All eyes will be on what happens to the couple’s marriage going forward.
