NiziU Takes Over Shibuya in Off-the-Shoulder Looks and Mini Skirts at New Album Event

“Ayaka!” “Miihi! You’re so cute!”

High-pitched screams, almost bordering on shrieks, echoed through the bustling streets of Shibuya. On July 2, the nine-member girl group NiziU held a commemorative event for the release of their new album at CD stores in Shibuya.

“This year marks the group’s fifth anniversary, and they held their first dome tour in three and a half years. They successfully completed the tour, with the final show taking place at Tokyo Dome on June 14. According to the official announcement, a total of 125,000 people attended across the four dates. On July 1, NiziU released their best album, ‘Portfolio,’ and this event was held to commemorate its release. Events were held at three major stores in Shibuya: SHIBUYA TSUTAYA from 5 p.m., HMV&BOOKS SHIBUYA from 6 p.m., and Tower Records Shibuya from 7 p.m. At each venue, autograph sessions were held for fans who had won advance lotteries.” (Music magazine writer)

Because the event had been announced in advance, fans who were unable to enter the venues gathered in Center-gai. Their numbers easily exceeded 500. When the members appeared, huge cheers erupted and the scene quickly became chaotic.

It was drizzling that day, but because all three stores were relatively close to Shibuya Station, the members traveled between them by minibus, with fans following along. Throughout the day, the members responded to the fans with smiles.

What surprised fans even more, however, was their clothing. All nine wore revealing outfits reminiscent of stage costumes, showing off their beautiful skin and legs.

RIKU (23), with her short blonde hair, wore a white off-the-shoulder outfit paired with a beige miniskirt. Walking immediately behind her was RIMA (22), dressed in a white sleeveless top and miniskirt. MIIHI (21) wore a pink sleeveless top with a black miniskirt.

That same day, NiziU updated its official website. Alongside commemorative photos from each of the three stores, the group posted a message:

“Thank you so much for coming to the NiziU Best Album ‘Portfolio’ release event. Thinking that we were able to look back on the past five years together with all the WithU members while listening to ‘Portfolio’ made it such a happy and special time♡”

The group also expressed its gratitude to “WithU,” the official NiziU fan club.

The best album is currently performing strongly in sales. In the “Billboard JAPAN” overall album chart “Top Albums Sales,” published July 9 and covering June 29–July 5, “Portfolio” ranked No. 1 overall based on CD sales, downloads, and streaming figures. Looking at CD sales alone, it ranked No. 2 with 103,814 copies sold.

NiziU has now firmly established its position as a leading girl group. Fans are eagerly looking forward to what the members will do next.
