Taylor Swift’s $33 Million Wedding Draws Hollywood’s Biggest Names—But Guests Faced a Strict Rulebook

On July 3 (local time), as excitement over the FIFA World Cup swept across the United States, singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (36) married Travis Kelce (36), the star player of the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs.

The venue was Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York City. The wedding was an extraordinarily lavish affair attended by numerous celebrities, and the scale of the event behind the scenes was astonishing.

Known primarily as the site of major rock concerts and professional basketball games, MSG, with its maximum capacity of approximately 22,000 people, hosted both the wedding ceremony and the reception. Around 1,000 guests were invited.

A castle-like structure was built inside the venue, and a floral garden was created to welcome attendees, turning the celebration into an event of historic proportions.

Comedian and actor Adam Sandler officiated at the ceremony. Taylor’s brother, Austin Swift, served as an attendant for the bride, while Travis’s brother, Jason Kelce, acted as his best man.

According to the American magazine “Us Weekly,” the bride and groom exchanged vows while walking down an exceptionally long aisle to a string quartet rendition of Swift’s 2008 hit song “Love Story.” Both reportedly became so emotional that they shed tears during the ceremony.

A massive stage was also constructed for the reception that followed. There, Paul McCartney—who is known to be close to Swift—performed the Beatles’ 1963 hit “I Want to Hold Your Hand” in honor of the couple.

The wedding drew some of Hollywood’s biggest names.

In addition to McCartney, guests reportedly included Tom Cruise, Swift’s close friend Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Bradley Cooper and his partner Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lopez, Dakota Johnson, Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, and filmmaker Steven Spielberg, among many others.

Guests were reportedly presented with handkerchiefs embroidered with lyrics from Swift’s song “Blank Space.”

The cost of reserving Madison Square Garden for three days—including setup, the ceremony itself, and dismantling the decorations afterward—as well as the expenses for decorations and catering, has been estimated at around 30 million dollars (approximately 4.8 billion yen).

As details surrounding the unprecedented ceremony have emerged, numerous stories from behind the scenes have also come to light. One of the most notable aspects was the exceptionally strict control of information.

On the night before the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held for a more intimate group of 100 guests. According to reports, at least four MSG employees were disciplined for allegedly photographing the interior of the venue before the ceremony.

Leaked footage believed to have been filmed inside the arena reportedly showed previously unseen photographs of the couple displayed across an entire wall.

“They’ll probably no longer be able to work at MSG, although they may still be employed elsewhere within the MSG Group.”

That is what a source reportedly told the media. According to the American entertainment website “Page Six,” employees had been forbidden from taking photographs inside the venue or speaking with members of the press.

A combined fortune of 340 billion yen

Many of the 1,000 guests—including the celebrities who attended the ceremony—were reportedly required to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). Except for a small circle of close friends, attendees were also prohibited from using their mobile phones and were forbidden from sharing information or photographs from the event on social media.

Even so, with media organizations across the United States fiercely competing for information, details from inside the ceremony were bound to emerge. Some guests, apparently overwhelmed by the occasion, revealed aspects of the event on social media.

Adam Aron, the CEO of the major American movie theater chain AMC Theatres, who attended the wedding, wrote on X that Madison Square Garden had been transformed into a magical outdoor garden overflowing with greenery. Referring to the couple’s vows, he wrote:

“Each of them spoke at length, in words that were humorous, personal, captivating, moving, unconventional, and deeply touching, about how they met, why they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, the promises they made while uniting two loving families, and the pledges they exchanged as they embarked upon a new life together.”

The post was later deleted.

The couple reportedly spent around 20 minutes reading handwritten vows that they had prepared in advance, and Taylor even performed a song.

“The dinner reception after the ceremony was said to have been extraordinarily lavish. Guests could choose whatever they liked from a vast selection of dishes, with food stations serving everything from pasta and sushi to chicken, salads, filet mignon, and popular Chinese, Italian, and American dishes. Staff members were stationed at each booth to serve guests personally.

The desserts were equally extravagant. A huge dessert table featured around 30 different cakes, each decorated with unique figurines of Taylor and Travis. A prize drawing was also held, and guests reportedly received luxury items such as bags from Chanel and Dior, vintage automobiles, and Cartier watches,” a Hollywood insider said.

Attention has also focused on the couple’s prenuptial agreement.

Travis, one of the NFL’s biggest stars, is reportedly worth around 90 million dollars (approximately 14.6 billion yen). Taylor, meanwhile, is said to possess assets worth around 2.1 billion dollars (approximately 340 billion yen), including album sales revenue, earnings from tours, private jets, and luxury homes. Given the considerable difference in their wealth, the two reportedly entered into a strict prenuptial agreement.

“Under California law, income earned during marriage is generally regarded as shared property and divided equally in the event of a divorce. That would place Taylor at a disadvantage, so it is customary to specify in detail beforehand that each party will continue to retain ownership of his or her own assets and income after marriage. Reports say Taylor and Travis’s prenuptial agreement runs to 40 pages,” the same source explained.

Taylor, the global superstar who has won 14 Grammy Awards, and Travis, who has won the Super Bowl three times, have become the embodiment of an American power couple, uniting the worlds of entertainment and professional sports in what has been described as a once-in-a-generation Hollywood wedding.
