Hollywood Celebrities Flock to Taylor Swift’s “4.8 Billion Yen Wedding”—But There’s a “Crazy” Rule for Guests
Paul McCartney gave a rousing performance
On July 3 (local time), amid the excitement of the FIFA World Cup in the U.S., American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift (36) and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce (36) tied the knot.
The venue was Madison Square Garden (commonly known as MSG) in New York. It was an ultra-luxurious ceremony attended by numerous celebrities, but what went on behind the scenes was on a completely different scale…
The wedding ceremony and reception were held at MSG—known for rock concerts and professional basketball games, with a maximum capacity of approximately 22,000—and about 1,000 guests were invited. A castle-like set was constructed at the venue, and a floral garden was set up to welcome guests, making it the event of the century.
Comedian and actor Adam Sandler officiated the wedding. Taylor’s younger brother, Austin Swift, served as a bridesmaid, while Travis’s older brother, Jason Kelsey, served as his best man.
According to the U.S. magazine *Us Weekly*, the bride and groom walked down a “particularly long aisle” to the strains of a string quartet rendition of Taylor’s 2008 hit “Love Story” as they exchanged vows, and both were moved to tears.
A massive stage was also set up at the venue, and during the reception following the ceremony, Paul McCartney—a close friend of Taylor’s—sang The Beatles’ 1963 hit “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to celebrate the couple.
The wedding brought together some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
In addition to Paul, attendees included Tom Cruise, Swift’s close friend Selena Gomez, Ed Sheeran, Bradley Cooper and his girlfriend, model Gigi Hadid, Jennifer Lopez,Dakota Johnson, Hugh Grant, Ethan Hawke, director Steven Spielberg, and many other celebrities attended the wedding.
Guests were reportedly presented with handkerchiefs embroidered with lyrics from Taylor’s song “Blank Space.”
It has been reported that the total cost—including the three-day exclusive use of MSG for setup the day before, the wedding day itself, and cleanup the following day, as well as venue decorations and catering—is estimated at $30 million (approximately 4.8 billion yen).
Various behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the highly unusual MSG wedding. One of these is the strict control of information.
On the eve of the wedding, a rehearsal dinner was held for 100 of the couple’s closest guests, but at least four MSG employees were disciplined on suspicion of taking photos inside the set-up wedding venue.
A leaked video, believed to have been filmed inside the venue, reportedly showed previously unseen photos of the couple displayed across an entire wall.
“It’s highly likely they won’t be able to work at MSG anymore, but they’ll probably be able to work in other departments within the MSG Group,”
a source reportedly said. The U.S. website “Page Six” reported that MSG employees were prohibited from taking photos inside the venue or speaking with members of the media.
Total assets: 340 billion yen
In addition, many of the 1,000 invited guests—including celebrities who attended the ceremony—were required to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs). With the exception of particularly close friends, attendees were prohibited from using cell phones and were also barred from sharing information or photos related to the ceremony on social media.
That said, with the media frenzy across the U.S. reaching a fever pitch, it was inevitable that inside information would leak out. Perhaps overcome by emotion, some guests even revealed details of the event on social media.Adam Aaron, CEO of the major U.S. movie theater chain AMC Theatres, who attended the wedding, revealed on his X account that MSG had been transformed into an “outdoor garden set in a magically lush countryside.” Regarding the couple’s wedding vows, he wrote:
“Each of them spoke at length—in words that were fascinating, personal, charming, moving, unconventional, yet endearing—about how they met, why they want to be together forever, the promises they made as they united their two beloved families, and their vows for their new life together,”
—but the post was later deleted.
The couple exchanged vows for about 20 minutes based on handwritten vows they had prepared in advance, and Taylor reportedly sang a song as well.
“The dinner at the wedding reception following the ceremony was also exceptionally lavish.Guests could choose whatever they liked from an abundant selection of dishes, and each station offered everything from pasta and sushi to chicken, salads, filet mignon, and popular Chinese, Italian, and American dishes. Staff were stationed at each food station to serve the food directly onto guests’ plates.
The desserts were also extravagant. There was a massive dessert table lined with about 30 different kinds of cakes, each reportedly decorated with unique figurines of Taylor and Travis. A gift raffle was held, and it’s reported that guests received luxury items such as Chanel and Dior bags, a vintage car, and a Cartier watch,” said a Hollywood insider.
Attention is also focused on Taylor and Travis’s prenuptial agreement.
NFL star Travis’s net worth is reported to be approximately $90 million (about 14.6 billion yen).On the other hand, Taylor’s net worth is said to be approximately $2.1 billion (about 340 billion yen), including album sales, tour revenue, her private jet, and her mansions, representing a significant disparity. As a result, it appears a strict prenuptial agreement was signed.
“Under California law, a couple’s income earned during the marriage is considered community property and is split equally in the event of a divorce. Since this would put Taylor at a disadvantage, it is standard practice to agree on the details before marriage—such as each party retaining ownership of their respective assets and income even after marriage. It has also been reported that Taylor and Travis’s prenuptial agreement spans 40 pages,” said the Hollywood insider mentioned earlier.
Taylor, a world-renowned singer who has won 14 Grammy Awards, and Travis, a three-time Super Bowl champion—the NFL’s premier championship game. As a super couple representing the U.S. entertainment and sports worlds, their wedding was an “event of the century” that was unprecedented even in Hollywood.
And now, in the aftermath of the celebration, all eyes are on when news of Taylor’s pregnancy with her first child will be announced—
