Yuta Tamamori and Aoi Morikawa star in the Sunday 10 p.m. July drama My Fiction (TV Asahi).

Excited to play a single mother

A strikingly attractive man and woman with a fresh, summery aura stroll through a large park overlooking the Pacific Ocean. They are Yuta Tamamori (36) of Kis-My-Ft2 and actress Aoi Morikawa (31).

In early June, filming for the July Sunday 10 p.m. drama “My Fiction” (TV Asahi) was taking place at a seaside park in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

“The drama is a completely original story by screenwriter Junpei Yamaoka (42), known for the 2012 ‘GTO’ series and the ‘Mr. Housekeeper,’ ‘Mitazono’ series. Tamamori plays the protagonist, Masaki Ikawa, an ordinary man who works as a caregiver at a nursing home and lives happily with his beloved wife Mayumi (Emma Miyazawa, 37) as they celebrate their sixth year of marriage. However, after an accident, he wakes up a week later to discover that someone else has taken his identity—and even Mayumi has completely forgotten him.

Morikawa plays Yuri Ninomiya, a single mother raising her six-year-old son alone. She happens to meet Ikawa after he is brought to the hospital and offers a helping hand when he is at a loss—but she has her own reasons for doing so. The result is a shocking romantic suspense drama whose twists are impossible to predict,” said a TV magazine writer.

Back at the filming scene, once the cameras started rolling, Tamamori and Morikawa began walking across the park’s grassy lawn with drinks in hand. Bathed in the refreshing sea breeze, they chatted casually as if they were a couple enjoying a leisurely stroll together.

After the director called cut, the production moved to a seaside walkway, where the pair changed costumes before filming another scene together. Between takes, Morikawa appeared relaxed, joking around with staff, suggesting the shoot was progressing smoothly.

Morikawa previously earned praise for playing a ruthless villain who relentlessly tormented the protagonist in the 2024 drama “Ooku” (Fuji TV). She also received acclaim last July when she landed her first leading role in a prime-time drama, “Stingers: Metropolitan Police Sting Operation Investigation Office (Fuji TV),” in which she played the leader of a specialized undercover investigation team. Ever since making her acting debut in 2012, she has been highly regarded for her immersive, possessed style of acting.

This time, she takes on the role of a single mother with a six-year-old child.

“I was thrilled by this unpredictable mystery and the human drama that grows out of it. Yuri, the character I play, is a strong woman who, while confronting her grief, continues moving forward to protect her young son. I’ll work as hard as I can during filming so that everyone will say it was a truly enjoyable drama!”

Morikawa spoke enthusiastically about the role. As a drama sure to inspire plenty of fan theories and discussion, anticipation is growing over what kind of woman she will portray.
