World Praises Sochi Olympics Gold Tatiana’s “Anti-War Message
An “anti-war message” from Russian figure skating pair Tatyana Vorosozhar, who won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, is making headlines. She published it on her Instagram account.
Tatyana is actually from Ukraine and started figure skating when she was five years old. She also represented Ukraine in the Olympics, but in Sochi, she paired with Russian Maxim Trankov and won the gold medal for Russia. Trankov, by the way, is her current husband.
In the midst of all this, Tatiana posted a text on Instagram protesting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
The first post was a black image with the message “NO to war.
The next post was a long message with a picture of Medvedeva with her right fist on her left chest, staring powerfully at the camera.
Medvedeva’s next post was a picture of Medvedeva with her right fist on her left breast, staring powerfully into the camera. I think I will do the same this time. I don’t want to start a war in the comments section.
I don’t know what to write. It’s difficult. I have a lot of relatives. I try to keep in touch with my father, my sisters and their families, my grandmother …… but it doesn’t always work. And when I don’t hear from them for hours, I get scared when I know they are trying to go away and be safe.
But we are all trying to do our best and stay calm, as a family. As long as we can.
War scares me the most; I can’t imagine this happening in 2022. But it’s even harder to watch and read online about the conflict between Ukrainians and Russian civilians.
Surely no sane person thinks that war is a good thing. And everyone around me, regardless of nationality, is horrified by this situation. We are all hostages in this situation right now. And we are just waiting and praying that it will end as soon as possible.
Please don’t fight and support each other. It is hard for everyone right now. In this situation, there is only one truth: peace is good, war is evil.”
There are risks involved in rebelling against the government in Russia. Still, Tatiana is very brave for speaking out.
