<h2>Exchanging gestures from the bench</h2>
<p class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer" data-start="132" data-end="451">Shohei Ohtani (31) of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who recently announced the birth of his second child on June 20, appears to be enjoying success both on and off the field. Recently, an unexpected off-the-field interaction between Ohtani and Munetaka Murakami (26), who joined the Chicago White Sox this year, was spotted.</p>
<p data-start="453" data-end="491">A sports newspaper reporter explained:</p>
<p data-start="453" data-end="491"><strong>&#8220;The Dodgers played a three-game series in Chicago, the home of the White Sox, from June 13 to June 15 (Japan time). During that series, the exchanges between Ohtani and Murakami from their respective benches became a hot topic.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="726" data-end="1027">On June 13, not only was Murakami on the injured list because of a right hamstring injury, but Ohtani also started the game on the bench so that his left knee condition could be monitored. Television cameras repeatedly captured the two players using body language to communicate from opposite dugouts.</p>
<p data-start="1029" data-end="1087">An employee of an information program described the scene:</p>
<p data-start="1029" data-end="1087"><strong>&#8220;Ohtani took off his cap and bowed slightly, almost as if to say, &#8216;Why didn&#8217;t you come over and say hello?&#8217; Murakami then pointed to his wristwatch, perhaps teasing Ohtani about arriving late at the stadium because of his knee examination. Ohtani responded by gesturing that Murakami&#8217;s hair was &#8216;too long.'&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="1400" data-end="1504">Their playful interaction quickly became a topic of conversation on social media, with comments such as:</p>
<p data-start="1400" data-end="1504"><strong>&#8220;It&#8217;s heartwarming.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="1400" data-end="1504"><strong>&#8220;They look more like comrades than rivals.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="1400" data-end="1504"><strong>&#8220;I could watch this exchange forever.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="1619" data-end="1680">The following day, June 14, another charming moment occurred.</p>
<p data-start="1682" data-end="2023" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Ohtani led off the game with a home run in the first inning, but during his at-bat in the seventh, a foul ball flew toward the White Sox dugout, where Murakami was sitting. Laughing, Murakami dramatically tossed his cap into the air with both hands as if to show how surprised he was, and Ohtani responded with a smile from the batter&#8217;s box.</p>

<h2>Four Japanese major leaguers together</h2>
<p class="PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer" data-start="148" data-end="277">The three-game series featured not only Shohei Ohtani but also Roki Sasaki (24) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (27) as starting pitchers.</p>
<p data-start="279" data-end="324">The sports reporter quoted earlier explained:</p>
<p data-start="279" data-end="324"><strong>&#8220;Sasaki started the opening game of the series against the White Sox. His condition seemed to be improving, as he threw a season-high 100.7 mph (about 162.1 km/h) fastball in the first inning. However, he allowed seven runs and suffered his fourth loss of the season. Yamamoto started the following day&#8217;s game on June 14. Building on a streak of 45 consecutive outs recorded since his previous start, he came within touching distance of a no-hitter and earned his seventh victory of the season. The Dodgers&#8217; Japanese trio all performed well in Chicago, Murakami&#8217;s home stadium, which made it all the more unfortunate that he was unable to play because of his injury.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="997" data-end="1196">The Dodgers&#8217; Japanese trio put on a show in Murakami&#8217;s home city. But once the games were over, the three players were joined by Murakami himself, and the four enjoyed an evening together in Chicago.</p>
<p data-start="1198" data-end="1497">Despite the fact that the series was still ongoing, Ohtani, Yamamoto, Sasaki, and Murakami gathered for dinner at a restaurant owned by a Japanese proprietor. Although they were in the United States, they reportedly enjoyed many of the dishes they had become accustomed to eating back home in Japan.</p>
<p data-start="1499" data-end="1531">A local sports writer commented:</p>
<p data-start="1499" data-end="1531"><strong>&#8220;The restaurant where the four players gathered is quite famous among Japanese residents in the area. Many regular customers are professional athletes, including Major League Baseball players. If I remember correctly, Ohtani himself has visited before. That said, Ohtani is well known for rarely going out to eat with other players. The fact that he took Yamamoto and Sasaki out during the season shows how fond he is of Murakami and how much respect he has for him as a player.&#8221;</strong></p>
<p data-start="2016" data-end="2209">Ohtani and Murakami have continued to strengthen their friendship both on and off the field. Perhaps there are things that only two extraordinary hitters can truly understand about one another.</p>
