<h2>You money-grubber!</h2>
The first trial hearing for two assault cases involving defendant Dewi Sukarno (86), better known as &#8220;Madame Dewi,&#8221; was held at the Tokyo District Court on June 23. &#8220;FRIDAY&#8221; Digital was the first to report both incidents.
According to the indictment, in February 2025, Dewi allegedly threw chopsticks, a champagne glass, and other objects at Woman A, an employee of her personal office, at a restaurant in Tokyo&#8217;s Shibuya Ward. &#8220;FRIDAY Digital&#8221; obtained the information before anyone else and reported that Dewi had undergone five hours of police questioning at Shibuya Police Station on March 22 last year, along with on-the-spot coverage.
Dewi was also involved in another incident late at night on October 28, 2025, at an animal hospital in Shibuya Ward, where she allegedly assaulted Woman B by punching her in the chest and stomach. &#8220;FRIDAY Digital&#8221; also reported that incident independently.
A person who was present at the animal hospital told &#8220;FRIDAY Digital&#8221; at the time:
&#8220;There was a woman shouting loudly in the hospital lobby as if she were giving a speech. When I looked more closely, I was shocked to realize it was Madame Dewi. She was wearing a chic purple two-piece outfit, but because she was rampaging and stomping her feet so violently, the heel of one of her high heels had already snapped off. Several hospital staff members and her two managers tried to stop her, but she only became more agitated, yelling at the hospital, &#8216;You money-grubber!&#8217; and &#8216;You killed the dog!'&#8221;
At the first hearing, where Dewi was tried for allegedly assaulting the two female employees, the forceful personality she often displays on television was nowhere to be seen. A television industry source who observed the proceedings said:
&#8220;Madame Dewi appeared in court wearing a black dress with pearl earrings and a diamond necklace, and looked very elegant. At the beginning of the trial, she had to state her name, date of birth, and other personal details, but her voice was so faint—it was completely different from the image people see on television.&#8221;
During the proceedings, Dewi&#8217;s attorney stated that there are some unclear areas in her memory, but she is not actively denying the allegations, effectively acknowledging most of the charges in the indictment.

<h2>She has absolutely no intention of apologizing</h2>
Although defendant Dewi Sukarno appeared subdued in court, she updated her social media on the night of the hearing, explaining why she assaulted Victim A:
&#8220;She suddenly said, &#8216;I&#8217;m not against eating dog meat,&#8217; and I lost my temper. I reflexively threw the wet towel and chopsticks that happened to be nearby. I regret that I behaved so immaturely.&#8221;
The post framed the incident as though Victim A had provoked Dewi, who has long opposed the consumption of dog meat.
She then argued:
&#8220;However, I have absolutely no recollection of throwing anything dangerous, such as a champagne glass.&#8221;
Dewi assaulted Victim B at an animal hospital after seeing off her beloved dog. Regarding that incident, she posted:
&#8220;When I tried to ask the young attending veterinarian, &#8216;Is this what you call life-prolonging treatment?&#8217; my former manager—who had no business being there—grabbed me from behind. I merely shook off those arms.&#8221;
&#8220;As has been reported, I did not punch or kick anyone at all.&#8221;
&#8220;It seemed like she kept piling up little lies in court, and it just made Madame Dewi look pitiful.&#8221;
So lamented a friend of Victim B.
&#8220;Even though Madame Dewi largely admitted the charges in court, she never apologized. B was in the courtroom, and rather than being angry, she was simply dumbfounded. The closest thing to an apology she offered was saying, &#8216;I&#8217;m sorry to all the dog and cat lovers who see me as a beacon of hope.&#8217; She apologized to pet lovers—not to the victims. It seems she has no intention of bowing her head to them.&#8221;
During the first hearing, the judge also asked why she had not apologized. Dewi replied:
&#8220;Because no one has asked me to.&#8221;
Although she has not apologized, a settlement offer was reportedly made. However, Victim B was said to be outraged by the way it was handled.
&#8220;About three weeks before she was indicted, B received a settlement agreement from Madame Dewi&#8217;s lawyer. There wasn&#8217;t a single word of apology in it, and the settlement amount section was left completely blank. So basically it was, &#8216;Settle the case&#8217;—without an apology or even an offer of compensation. On top of that, despite no amount being specified, they demanded that she promptly withdraw her criminal complaint once payment was made. Can you imagine anything more disrespectful?
B isn&#8217;t after money. All she&#8217;s been waiting for is a sincere apology from Madame Dewi. She asked the lawyer, &#8216;Please tell me how Madame Dewi truly feels,&#8217; but the question was brushed aside. She was left speechless, saying, &#8216;She has absolutely no intention of apologizing,'&#8221; the friend of Victim B said.
Attention now turns to the next hearing, where prosecutors are expected to present their evidence.
