<h2>Even reporting around the dome was prohibited</h2>
On May 31, Arashi held its final concert before going on hiatus at the Tokyo Dome. The sold-out venue was filled with excitement and tears, becoming a historic night that demonstrated the bond among the five members. However, behind the scenes, an unprecedented level of media restrictions was imposed, overturning long-standing norms in the entertainment industry.

Yet, unlike a typical major concert, there were no sports newspaper reporters, television cameramen, or journalists seated in the venue. The only cameras present were official ones.
“For this final performance, organizers informed media outlets just two days before the concert, on May 29, that there would be absolutely no on-site coverage. The restrictions extended beyond the venue itself to the entire area around Tokyo Dome. It’s extremely rare to see major media companies regulated this thoroughly. Since all photos and videos came exclusively from official sources, violating the rules could have meant losing access to future materials. We reluctantly complied.”

<h2>Even archival footage was banned</h2>
One explanation being discussed is that the group wanted to preserve a space shared only by the five members and their fans.
“For Arashi fans, this was a once-in-a-lifetime final performance they absolutely wanted to attend. By eliminating media seating, they were able to make room for more fans. It shows how much importance they placed on their supporters. Also, artists often dislike having media and industry personnel in attendance because those sections tend to be less enthusiastic and stand out.”

“The former Johnny’s scandal is still casting a shadow. Even though the media once had a very close relationship with the agency, many outlets turned around and harshly criticized it. Management still seems unhappy about that. STARTO may feel there’s no longer any need to maintain the kind of media relationships they once did.”
