<p> What did &#8220;FRIDAY&#8221; report 10, 20, or 30 years ago? In &#8220;Playback Friday,&#8221; we revisit the topics that were hot at the time. This time, we will look at the June 2, 2006 issue, which was published 20 years ago.</p>
<p> On May 11, 2006, the mangled body of Masato Ishikawa (29), a company employee, was found in an apartment in Oiso Town, Kanagawa Prefecture. The body was lying face down in a T-shirt and underwear, and at first it appeared to have a large wound around the neck. However, upon closer inspection, the neck had been cruelly severed.</p>

<p> Two days later, Maki Hasumi (pseudonym, 26 at the time), the apartment&#8217;s tenant and Ishikawa&#8217;s live-in companion, was arrested in front of JR Kayagasaki Station.</p>
<p><span class="strongInContent"> On April 30, he stabbed her to death with a kitchen knife while she was sleeping. A few days later, he returned to his apartment and cut her up with a kitchen knife. I intended to hide the body in pieces.</span></p>

A male acquaintance of Hasumi&#8217;s said, &#8220;In early May, I had a drink with her and two or three other men and women. She talked a lot and seemed to be enjoying herself.</span></p>
<p> When we interviewed people who knew her as a student, they all said that <span class="strongInContent">she was a low profile person</span>. Hasumi&#8217;s life up to the time of the incident seems to have been very low-key.</p>

<p><span class="strongInContent"> A junior high school classmate said, &#8220;She&#8217;s a simple girl. She tended to miss school from her second year of high school. There was a rumor that she snuck into O&#8217;s school.</span></p>

<p> He met Ms. Ishikawa around 2004 at a cabaret club where Hasumi worked, and they had been living together for about a year. They had even promised to marry at one point.</p>

<p> Hasumi stated that her motive for committing the crime was <span class="strongInContent">that &#8220;she did not pay me for my living expenses, and when I complained, she immediately attacked me</span>. In fact, their relationship seemed to have soured shortly before the incident.</p>

<p> Subsequent interrogations and trials revealed Hasumi&#8217;s ruthless &#8220;premeditation. Hasumi wanted to leave Ms. Ishikawa, but he assumed that it would not be easy, so he decided to kill her. About two weeks before the incident, he purchased a kitchen knife.</p>
<p> At around 4:20 a.m. on May 1, she stabbed Mr. Ishikawa, who was sleeping, in the neck with a kitchen knife, and when he woke up and got up, she stabbed him several more times in the neck and back, killing him. He then cut off his head around 7 to 10 of the same month. They were trying to dismember the body and carry it away, but while they were taking their time, the body was found.</p>

<p> The motive was that the money he had borrowed from consumer loans to pay for living expenses had grown to about 3 million yen, and he had grown tired of Mr. Ishikawa, who did not work and was violent. In addition, about three months before the incident, Hasumi began having an affair with a younger client and going home in the morning, and they had a constant dispute.</p>
<p> At the trial held at the Odawara Branch of the Yokohama District Court from July 28, 2006, Hasumi admitted the facts of the indictment. In March 2007, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for &#8220;ruthless, brutal, and outrageous conduct.</p>
