<h2>Yuta Takahata speaks for the first time about a male acquaintance of the woman involved</h2>
A lengthy official statement posted on social media by actor and theater company leader Yuta Takahata (32) on May 16, 2026, has generated significant public reaction.
In August 2016, nearly ten years ago, Takahata was arrested on suspicion of rape causing injury involving a female hotel employee, referred to here as Ms. A, at the location where he had been filming a movie. The incident shocked the public and led to his disappearance from the entertainment spotlight. This marks the first time that Takahata himself has presented such detailed assertions regarding the case.
&#8220;Honestly, I&#8217;m surprised he went that far in discussing it.&#8221;
So says a producer for a television information program.
At the time, wide-show programs and weekly magazines reported almost daily on Takahata&#8217;s arrest. As the son of famous actress Junko Takahata (71), and having appeared in NHK&#8217;s morning drama Mare the year before, Takahata&#8217;s popularity had been rapidly rising. Although a settlement was eventually reached with the woman involved and Takahata was ultimately released without indictment (suspension of prosecution), media scrutiny did not subside.
During the reporting process at the time, particular attention was focused on a male acquaintance of Ms. A.
This man was said to have played a significant behind-the-scenes role during the settlement negotiations. In its September 30/October 7, 2016 combined issue, &#8220;FRIDAY&#8217; published an exclusive report claiming that this individual had ties to organized crime groups.
<h2>An information war involving the media</h2>
&#8220;Lawyers representing the woman, Yuta&#8217;s agency, and the Takahata family were discussing a settlement, but this male acquaintance of the woman was also involved. At the time, rumors circulated that Takahata&#8217;s side had paid several tens of millions of yen in settlement money, but the truth was never established. Neither Ms. A nor Takahata&#8217;s side publicly disclosed any details regarding the settlement amount,&#8221; said a sports newspaper reporter.
However, ten years later, Takahata, one of the parties directly involved, has shed light on what happened behind the scenes of the settlement.
In his statement, he wrote:
&#8220;Regarding this individual (Editor&#8217;s note: the male acquaintance), it was later discovered that he had formerly been associated with organized crime groups. It has also been confirmed that this person made demands for large sums of money to the agency I belonged to at the time, as well as to other related parties.&#8221;
Through this statement, Takahata disclosed that the acquaintance had connections to organized crime and suggested that substantial financial demands had been made.
He further stated:
&#8220;I believe that the existence of these circumstances is an element that cannot be ignored when attempting to understand the overall picture of this case.&#8221;
While he stopped short of explicitly stating whether those demands were accepted, the wording suggests that the man&#8217;s actions had an impact on the settlement process.
&#8220;Even though ten years have passed, it carries considerable weight that Yuta himself, as one of the parties involved, has spoken about what happened behind the scenes. The reason is that this case became an information battle involving the media, with various accounts emerging from both sides.
For example, Weekly Bunshun reported that Ms. A entered Takahata&#8217;s room after accepting his invitation and that sexual activity took place. However, Weekly Gendai published an interview with Ms. A in which she said she had gone to deliver a toothbrush and was forcibly pulled into the room.
In the end, the truth remained unclear, and what was left behind most strongly was the fact that Yuta Takahata had been arrested,&#8221; said the aforementioned producer.
In an effort to remove the stigma attached to his name and separate himself from his past, Takahata may have chosen to reveal the involvement of the former organized crime associate.
However, not every mystery surrounding the case has been resolved.
How Takahata will regain public trust moving forward remains to be seen.
