The enemy has made me its number one target.

Ukraine’s President Zelensky, 44, made this appeal with a stern expression in a video speech on February 25.

According to the Washington Post, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s main goal in invading Ukraine is to establish a puppet pro-Russian government. To this end, he has made a list of reactionary Ukrainian politicians and academics. President Zelensky is said to be the biggest target.

What Russia is planning is a ‘beheading campaign’ to overthrow the Zelensky regime. Putin has likened Zelensky to Hitler of Nazi Germany for his slaughter of the pro-Russian population. He has appealed to Ukrainian soldiers to ‘seize power and side with Russia.

President Zelensky has responded in a cavalier manner. The U.S. Biden administration has suggested the existence of assassins and has advised President Zelensky to flee the capital, Kiev. However, President Zelensky remained in the area and was ready to fight, saying, “I will protect my land, my country, and my children. On the other hand, on February 27, he announced that he would hold talks with the Russian side, showing his attitude of dialogue.

A hit TV drama that became reality

Her cheerful personality made her a popular personality on variety shows.

President Zelensky’s words and actions are watched closely by the world. He was born in January 1978 in the Dnepropetrovsk region of eastern Ukraine. He was born in January 1978 in the Dnepropetrovsk region of eastern Ukraine to a father who was a university professor and a mother who was an engineer.

He is said to have been a vivacious and intelligent child. At the age of 13, he appeared on a Russian variety show representing Ukraine.

After graduating from high school, he entered the prestigious Kyiv University of Economics in Ukraine. Although he specialized in law, he admitted that he had a talent for comedy, and after graduation, he formed his own comedy troupe called “95th Street”. He also worked on scripts, screenplays, and program production, and became a top comedian.

The turning point for Zelensky was the drama “The People’s Me” that was broadcast on Ukrainian national television in 2003. In this drama, Mr. Zelensky became president and gave a good performance as an amateur politician who confronts corruption and injustice in the political world with humor. He gained national popularity.

In April 2007, he was elected as the 6th president of the United States with an overwhelming victory of more than 70% of the votes cast. He was 41 years old at the time. In October of the same year, he came to Japan and met with then Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the State Guest House in Akasaka.

When he took office, his approval rating was over 70%. But for Mr. Zelensky, who had no political experience, the presidency must have been a heavy responsibility at first. There was a time when the loose ends were exposed. Professor Itsuro Nakamura of Tsukuba University, who is an expert on the situation in Eastern Europe, tells us.

There were two main stumbling blocks for President Zelensky,” said Professor Nakamura, an expert on Eastern European affairs, “First, he placed the visual media staff of the comedy group he founded, 95th Street, at the center of his administration. This group of political amateurs gave priority to performance and failed to make a mark in the administrative field.

The second is the law on the dismantling of conglomerates that was set in place last November. As the administration failed to produce results, business people with political influence began to protest. Mr. Zelensky kept them from interfering in politics, and the conflict between the business and political worlds became decisive.

The country was in turmoil and Zelensky’s approval rating dropped to about 19%. For Vladimir Putin, who believes that Ukraine is an ethnic group like Russia, this would have been the perfect opportunity to intervene. Some analysts point out that Zelensky’s politics gave him the excuse that he had to take military action to help the impoverished pro-Russian population.

But crises change people. President Zelensky has been sending out a series of encouraging messages such as “We will never run away” and “We will fight with you,” while also negotiating with the Russians to protect the lives of the people, which has won him the praise of foreign countries. With the support of not only Ukraine but also the world, will President Zelensky be able to overcome the national crisis?

During the presidential campaign, Zelensky appealed to the common man by playing table tennis.
