A woman with a bright, refreshing smile, waving while wearing a spring-like floral dress, it is actress Nanoka Hara (22).

In mid-April, filming for the currently airing drama “Lunacy” (TV Tokyo) was taking place in Minato Mirai, Yokohama.

“The drama is based on a manga of the same name by manga artist Natsuko Ishigusa, which won the top prize in the first half of 2022 ‘Weekly Bunshun Enta Manga Awards.’ The story is a religious-themed suspense. It follows the protagonist Luna, played by Hara, who was raised as the child of the fire god. At her grandmother’s ‘Fire God Medical Acupuncture Clinic,’ she runs a kind of ‘faith-based business’ by selling moxa that contains her own blood. The story depicts how she falls in love as a girl, but love is forbidden for the child of the fire god, and she ultimately drags the man she falls for into her belief-based business,” said a television magazine writer.

Hara first gained major attention for voicing the protagonist in the 2022 animated film “Suzume.” She later received high praise for her performances in films such as “Detective Conan: The Bride of Halloween” (live-action appearance) and “Oshi no Ko: The Final Act,” in which she played a former child prodigy actress. Since then, she has been in high demand for both films and dramas. In 2025 alone, she appeared in five television dramas, including the NHK morning drama “Anpan.” This work marks her first lead role in a serialized terrestrial drama.

In the April 23 episode, Luna teaches a female student—one of her clients—how to make money by getting male students to touch her body, pushing her into a downward spiral.

On the day of filming, Minato Mirai was filled with young couples and families. When preparations began and Hara appeared on set, passersby who noticed her could be heard saying, “Is that the ‘Lunacy’ shoot?” and “Hara-chan is so cute.”

That day, Hara was not in a school uniform but instead wearing the bright floral dress described above. Before filming, she waited under a large parasol to shield herself from the strong sunlight, smiling calmly the entire time. The scene being shot appeared to be a meeting with a man; when she met a suited actor, she spoke to him with exaggerated gestures and an overwhelmingly charming expression—but beneath that appearance, there seemed to be hidden intentions…

Regarding the role, Hara commented:

“Luna is an innocent person who, once she wants something, will do anything to obtain it. I value that straightforwardness, as well as her obsession and stubbornness. She has both charisma and the emotions of a teenage girl, so I am carefully considering how much of each side to show, while exploring the role every day as I perform.”

With anticipation for Hara’s outstanding performance, attention is also focused on how the drama will unfold going forward.

I have a feeling that there is a backstory to this fresh smile, given the setting of the drama.
