<h3>He knew about the missing person before being contacted</h3>
This case involves the body of sixth-grade elementary school student Yuki Adachi (11), which was abandoned in a mountainous area in Sonobe-cho, Nantan City, Kyoto Prefecture. His father, Yuki Adachi (37), has been arrested on suspicion of abandoning a body, and questioning is still ongoing.
“Suspect Adachi is reportedly responding in a calm manner. He has made statements that appear to admit the charges, and has also given testimony to the effect that he strangled him impulsively. Once the prefectural police solidify the charges, they are likely to re-arrest him on suspicion of murder.
He is said to have taken Yuki to school, then moved him to another location and committed the act. It has also become clear that he moved the body around afterward. Investigators have also found evidence of concealment efforts, such as deleting parts of the drive recorder data,” said a reporter from a national newspaper’s social affairs department.
The investigation has extended not only to the suspect but also to his family. A local resident said:
“Police come to their house almost every day. The family can’t go out, and they’re really struggling. I heard they can’t even go to work. It’s heartbreaking—they lost a child and are now in this situation.”
The incident came to light on March 23. Nearly a month had passed since Yuki went missing, and at first it was widely reported as a mysterious case. However, as the investigation progressed, not only were the mysteries clarified, but the suspect’s selfish and sloppy methods also came to light.
Investigators have pointed out three contradictions in the suspect’s statements.
“The first is his movements on the day of the incident. The suspect initially stated that he learned the child was missing through contact from the school. However, it was later revealed that before the school contacted him around 11:50 a.m., he had already told related parties that the child is missing. This discrepancy—how he knew about the absence before the school’s notification—is what first raised suspicion for the prefectural police.”

<h3>Reason for choosing a public restroom</h3>
In the course of the investigation, inconsistencies were also found.
“From the beginning when he went missing, the family had been distributing search flyers. The suspect Adachi also participated, but what stood out was his attitude. It was confirmed that on March 31 he went to a local pastry shop to hand out flyers, but he did not introduce himself or say he was the father—he only handed out the flyers.
Even when a shop employee asked where they should be posted, he reportedly replied, ‘Anywhere is fine,’ showing little motivation. Since he couldn’t refuse to cooperate with the family’s search efforts, he must have done it reluctantly,” said the same investigative source.
FRIDAY Digital obtained surveillance footage from the cake shop. It was a short clip showing him moving from the parking lot into the store, but the suspect appeared calm, almost mechanical in his behavior.
“The biggest inconsistency is how the body was handled. Although moving a body itself carries risks, at one point it appears he hid it in a public restroom in Rurikei, a tourist area. Why choose a place with so much foot traffic?
The locations where the backpack and shoes were found are connected by the road he used to commute. That public restroom is also along that same road. What this suggests is a criminal mindset of trying to move the body to avoid discovery risk, while still keeping it within his own behavioral range,” said the investigative source.
A nearby resident of the public restroom told &#8220;FRIDAY Digital:&#8221;
“Quite a lot of people, like workers, use that restroom. And every Monday a cleaning staff member comes. The storage cabinet for cleaning tools is usually locked too, so I don’t think there’s any place to hide anything.”
This raises doubts about its suitability as a hiding place.
The suspect’s actions, which also showed notable clumsiness, were summarized by investigators:
“At first, because items were found in separate locations, it was thought to be a carefully planned crime intended to confuse the investigation. However, in reality, it was a series of improvised concealment attempts—nothing more than a reckless, impulsive act.”
Looking back, the suspect himself described the motive as impulsive. Such selfish and self-centered actions can never be justified.
At the site in the wooded area where Yuki’s body was discovered, an offering table has been set up along the mountain path, covered with an overwhelming number of tributes. It is clear that many people are mourning his death.
