Is a Comeback Near? Nakai Masahiro’s Official Site Update Raises Questions

The intention behind the domain renewal
Masahiro Nakai (53), who disappeared from public view following his retirement announcement in January 2025, has made a move.
It was reported on April 15 by Smart FLASH that Nakai, who heads the personal office “Nonbirinakai,” renewed the domain of its official website this April.
Fans had believed it was only a matter of time before the site would be shut down. However, there may be a reason why Nakai, who was supposed to have retired, maintained his internet address, so to speak.
“There are likely two intentions behind this,” says an entertainment industry insider.
“One is brand management. Nakai has long been extremely sensitive about his name and image being used in unintended ways. If he were to let go of the domain, there would be a risk of third parties creating similar sites like nonbirinakai.com and using them for impersonation or malicious information. This is likely a defensive measure.”
The continued role of “Nonbirinakai”
The domain “nonbirinakai.co.jp” uses the “co.jp” extension, which is highly reliable and can only be obtained and maintained by companies registered in Japan. By paying an annual maintenance fee of several thousand to several tens of thousands of yen, the domain can be kept active.
“Another, more important point is maintaining the platform itself. By holding onto the domain, he keeps the option open to use the ‘Nonbirinakai’ website to disseminate information at any time. Having a well-known site gives him strong distribution power if he ever restarts communication. It also sends an unspoken message to fans and industry people that the shop is not closed,” the same entertainment industry source added.
In a January 2026 issue of Josei Seven, Nakai was reported to have calmly responded to a reporter’s direct questions.
Regarding a return to entertainment activities, he dismissed it by saying,
“Never even thought about it,”
but when asked about his health, he smiled and said,
“I’m doing fine.”
A television industry source told this site:
“That ‘I’m fine’ felt like it was not only directed at fans, but also at people in the industry. It felt like a way of showing presence. With direct interviews and domain renewal this year, I can’t help but feel these moves may be preparation for a return. Terrestrial TV would be difficult, but there are various possibilities such as online distribution centered around an official website or transitioning into producing work.”
The small step of renewing a domain may be the prelude to the restart of “Masahiro Nakai” as a content brand.
A YouTube program on FRIDAY Digital’s “Entertainment Reporter Channel” features active entertainment journalists discussing the possibility of Nakai’s return, titled “Signs of Masahiro Nakai resuming activities!? The truth behind his website domain renewal.” They further analyze the possibility of a comeback, including behind-the-scenes developments involving TOBE president Hideaki Takizawa and changes occurring within the industry regarding Nakai.
